The day of Italian women: started with Federica Brignone’s gold in the super G, continued with the victory of Francesca Lollobrogida in skating in the 5000m (second victory for her after the triumph in the 3000m) and concluded with the silver of Arianna Fontana in the 500 meter short track but above all he reaches the legend Mangiarotti with 13 medals won at the Olympics.

The Italian finished with a time of 6’46″17 after dominating the sixth heat which saw her alongside an icon of world speed skating such as the Czech Martina Sablikova. Silver went to the Dutch Merel Conijn, trailing by just one tenth, bronze went to the Norwegian Wiklund, at 17 hundredths of a second.

And then there is Arianna Fontanawho never tires of winning. After the gold in the relay here is the silver in the 500 short track, Olympic medal number thirteen which allows her to equal a legend of Italian sport like Edoardo Mangiarotti. But the Italian, at Milan Cortina 2026, will have three more races to overcome her illustrious “companion”: the 1000, the 1500 and the women’s relay.

Bronze in the mixed luge relay

The last medal of a memorable Thursday for Italy came from mixed luge relay. After the gold medals in the men’s and women’s doubles and the bronze for Fischnaller, a medal also in the team event with Verena Hofer, Simon Kainzwaldner, Emanuel Rieder, Dominik Fischnaller, Andrea Voetter and Marion Oberhoferbehind Germany and Austria. Zoeggeler’s Italy on the Eugenio Mondi slope of the Cortona Sliding Center closes a monumental edition, in second place in the medal table behind Germany.
