Macron offers Brigitte’s hand as he gets off the plane, she ignores him

Brigitte Macron and the new gesture of coldness towards her husband: after the “slap” in Vietnam, he ignores the president of the president at the arrival in London.

Upon arrival at the Raf base of Northolt, west of London, on the morning of 8 July, for the state visit of President Emmanuel Macron in the United Kingdom, a gesture of the Première Dame Brigitte Macron attracted the attention of the British media. Descending the latest steps of the aircraft ladder, Brigitte chose to rely on the handrail, avoiding the hand that her husband had offered them to accompany her.

The moment, immediately captured by photographers and taken up by English newspapers, quickly made the rounds of the web. The episode brought to mind another similar scene that took place last May in Vietnam, when Brigitte, with a decisive gesture, had touched the president’s face just before leaving the presidential jet. On that occasion, some media even spoke of “slap”, although the Elisee had promptly reduced the incident, calling it “a simple affectionate gesture”.

The distance between the spouses appears increasingly marked, just as they entry the United Kingdom for one of the most relevant diplomatic events of the year.
