make war against war

Monday 22 September 2025 From the early hours of the morning, banners and Palestinian flags begin to appear in the squares and main streets of the cities. The geography of the protest spreads from north to south, but Milan is imposed as the most incandescent point, the center of a day marked by clashes, blocks and tensions.

Milan, the central station surrounded by smoking

The procession takes shape in Milan already in the morning, when thousands of people gather in Piazza Cadorna. The slogan that dominates the banners is clear: “We will block everything, stop the genocide”. The march moves slow, compact, with Palestinian flags that wave on the crowd. When the procession reaches the central station, the most important railway node in Lombardy, the protest changes its face.

Suddenly, the large window of the main entrance is broken. The echo of broken glass resonates inside the atrium. The protesters grasp the service hydrants and turn them against the police. The police reacting by shooting tear gas: in a few minutes the station is invaded by a dense, acre smoke, which burns the eyes and takes away the breath. Tourists with suitcases in hand run away between screams and panic, climbing gates to earn the exit. Some remain trapped for minutes in the cloud, between abandoned luggage and explained sirens.

“Acab” writings appear to the inputs of the subway. Outside, in via Vittor Pisani, the guerrilla continues: stones, bottles and sticks are launched against the agents, which respond with offices and a dense launch of tear gas. The roads remain surrounded by smoke, between sirens, helicopters in low flight and the escape of passers -by.

The budget is serious: over ten people stopped, sixty wounded agents, twenty -three hospitalized in the hospital. Not far away, near the American consulate, a US flag is burned. It is the image that closes the day of Milan: the central station transformed into the battlefield, with the paralyzed tracks, the stored stains, the blocked city traffic.

The sentences come immediate. Giorgia Meloni speaks of “unworthy images from Milan”, Antonio Tajani stresses that “it is not with the violence that the Palestinian civilian population” is helping “, Ignazio La Russa denounces” hundreds of criminals “. Lorenzo Fontana defines the day “a concentrate of vandalism and hate”, while the mayor Beppe Sala declares: “Vandalism does not find justification and does not help the cause of Gaza”.

Milan remains the symbol of delirium, but mobilization crosses Italy, taking on different forms in each city.

Milan symbol of a day that crossed Italy

The guerrilla exploded at the central station remains the most incisive photography of this September 22nd. Shattered windows, tear me in the atrium, tourists on the run: images that have crossed the country together with those of the processions of Rome, Naples, Turin, Venice, Trieste, Genoa, Bologna, Florence, Pisa, Livorno, Perugia, Terni, Bari, Palermo and even the Vatican. An Italy marked by blocks, slogans and smoke, which in a few hours saw its cities transform into protest theaters.
