Five years after Megxit, Meghan Markle returns to hit: between hated tights and glossy interviews, the Duchess seems unable to give up her favorite script – telling real life as a nightmare.
Five years have passed since the infamous Megxitbut Meghan Markle still seems to have some pending accounts with Buckingham Palace. Every now and then, like a record that always jumps on the same furrow, the Duchess of the Sussex never misses an opportunity to return to talk about her uncomfortable real parenthesis. The last stoccata came during an interview with the journalist Emily Chung of Bloombergin the program The Circuiton the eve of the debut of the second season of his show With love, meghanbroadcast on Netflix from 26 August.
With the usual air from “paladin of authenticity”, Meghan explained how long she missed herself free when she lived in London. “A few years ago it was different, I could not be so explicit”confessed, revealing that among the most hated rules there was an obligation to wear meat pantyhose: “I always had to wear meat pantyhose … it wasn’t much from me.” And again: «It seemed a little not very authentic. That in Buckingham Palace there is a protocol is certainly not a mysteryand equally certain is that Meghan knew well what was waiting for her when she married Harry. He probably thought he could bend the rules to his liking, but reality, as we know, went to a completely different direction. Questioned by Emily Chung about her current positions, she preferred to glissous: «I simply choose what matters for me and what is important for me. And that was a different period in 2016 ». At the time, in fact, a guest at Nightly show With Larry Wilmore, Donald Trump had boiled as a “misogynist” and “divisive”even declaring that he would leave America in case of his election. A language that screeches with the political neutrality required to those who are part of the royal familybut that Meghan, once out, seems to have preferred to archive to give a more institutional tone.
During the interview with Chung, the atmosphere was informal: hamburgers, beer pints and some smoky reflection on the state of the world. «I think this is an interesting moment for the whole world. I just hope that people are able to maintain the values that are important for them and to feel safe “he said. Beautiful words, of course, but judging by the comments of the public, the impression is always the same: every apparition of Meghan Markle ends up seeming yet another, predictable script.
