Apple presents iPhone 17e: A19 chip, C1X modem, 48MP Fusion camera, MagSafe and basic 256GB for 729 euros. Pre-orders from March 4th, available from March 11th
It is not the most spectacular model in the range, but it is probably the most strategic. With iPhone 17e, Apple reinforces its idea of ”accessible premium”: a device that does not chase the wow effect of the Pro, but consolidates power, autonomy and memory in a package designed to last.
The starting price is set at 729 euros, but the real change of pace is elsewhere: 256GB of basic storage. Double compared to the previous generation, four times compared to iPhone 12 at the same price point. In an age of 4K video, ultra-high resolution photos and increasingly demanding applications, space is no longer a technical detail: it’s a selling point.
A19 and C1X: solid performance, real efficiency
The heart of the device is the new A19 chip, built with a 3 nanometer process. The 6-core CPU promises speed and fluidity even in the most intense loads, while the 4-core GPU with Neural Accelerator opens up console-level gaming, with support for ray tracing and AAA titles.
C1X, the new generation cellular modem designed internally by Apple, makes its debut alongside the processor. It is up to twice faster than the C1 of the iPhone 16e and consumes 30% less than the modem of the iPhone 16 Pro. The result is a declared battery life for the whole day, also supported by the energy management of iOS 26.
It’s not just a question of brute power. It is a systemic optimization: hardware and software that communicate in an increasingly integrated way, a true competitive advantage of the Cupertino company.
Robust design, less reflections, more substance
iPhone 17e is made of aerospace aluminum and IP68 certified against water and dust. The front is protected by the new Ceramic Shield 2, with three times greater scratch resistance than the previous generation and improved anti-reflection properties.
The 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with OLED technology reaches up to 1,200 nits of peak HDR brightness, ensuring readability even in strong light conditions. Face ID confirmed and the customizable Action button introduced, now an identity element of the new generation.
Available in black, white and a new light pink with a matte finish, iPhone 17e maintains a sober aesthetic, consistent with the model’s philosophy: less ostentation, more solidity.
Fusion 48MP camera: two in one
The photographic system revolves around the 48MP Fusion with integrated optical quality 2x telephoto lens. Apple calls it “two cameras in one”, and the concept is clear: versatility without multiplying the sensors.
Images can be shot at 48MP or in the default 24MP mode, which balances quality and file size. Portrait mode benefits from advanced processing that makes depth more natural and bokeh softer. The system automatically recognizes people and pets, saving depth information to change focus even after shooting.
On the video front, iPhone 17e records in 4K Dolby Vision up to 60 fps, with spatial audio and Audio Mix function to intervene on the sound in post-production. Wind noise reduction uses machine learning algorithms to improve the overall quality of your footage.
Satellite and Apple Intelligence: everyday security and AI
The satellite functions remain central: emergency SOS, satellite messages, roadside assistance and location sharing via Find My. In the absence of a cellular or Wi-Fi network, the device can still maintain essential contact with the outside world.
With iOS 26 the new Liquid Glass design debuts and the scope of Apple Intelligence expands: real-time translation in Messages, FaceTime and Phone, automatic filtering of calls from unknown numbers, on-hold assistant and more rigorous management of messages from unknown senders.
Artificial intelligence, here, is not a label but a stratification of micro-functions that impact everyday life.
Price and availability
iPhone 17e will be available in 256GB and 512GB sizes, pre-orderable from March 4th and on sale from March 11th, starting from 729 euros or 30.37 euros per month for 24 months.
With this model Apple doesn’t try to surprise: it tries to consolidate. iPhone 17e is the answer to a mature market, where upgrading is no longer an impulse but a reasoned choice. High performance, generous memory, real autonomy and price under control. In times of technological inflation, balance is true innovation.
