A musical tells the life of its creator Maria Perego, an extraordinary woman who knew how to challenge the world
“When they proposed making a musical about Topo Gigio, I admit, I was very hesitant. Hesitant because I didn’t know his true size, the true stature of Topo Gigio; I thought it was “simply” that little mouse on TV who spoke to children.”
This is how Maurizio Colombi, one of the best directors of musicals at an international level, talks about his first impact with that apparently bizarre idea, which later turned into a great project.
“Nothing could be further from the truth: Topo Gigio is a star with global success. In Japan, there is even a museum entirely dedicated to him! – I became curious, I discovered the wonderful story of its creator Maria Perego and the immense universe that revolves around this puppet with big blue eyes. My answer, at that point, could only be positive!”
Convinced thanks to the extraordinary story of Maria Perego, added to the creativity and madness of Alessandro Rossi, Topo Gigio’s “father”, thanks to whom we had already discovered how much his schedule was almost busier than Lady Gaga’s. On 11 February 1959, the most irresistible mouse in the show took his first steps in Rai within the broadcast Gala evening. Almost seventy years later, Gigio confirms his qualities as an actor, dancer and singer, debuting at the Teatro Lirico Giorgio Gaber in Milan (from 5 to 15 March) and at the Teatro Brancaccio in Rome (from 25 March to 5 April).
A new artistic adventure, a live musical where the story of Topo Gigio is told. A story that takes inspiration from a fairy tale that blends with the life of Maria Perego, the one who created this puppet challenging the world.
A fictionalized fairy tale for the whole family, where adults will pleasantly become children again and children will feel like adults because the language spoken is that of feelings.
“It’s been years since so many people showed up to audition for a musical!” underlines Colombi.
She will be in the role of Maria Perego Milena Miconi flanked by a surprising one Teresa Morici (who will play Maria as a child). Also in the cast Sergio Friscia in the role of a particular character, “Mister P”, about whom we prefer not to spoil too much.
A comedy with a soundtrack created by Franco Fasano – for the uninitiated, author, among others, of “I love”, “I will leave you”, “General” And “Give me a smile”a song that will also be present in the musical, in its very first version, before Drupi rearranged it). Fasano, thanks to his sensitivity in composing, gave music to a soul. That of a little doll made of fabric and foam rubber, thirty-six centimeters tall, including ears, capable of conquering anyone, thanks to an infinite tenderness passed down to him by his mother, and above all thanks to a big, big heart.
