Andrea Sempio, the only person under investigation for the death of Chiara Poggi, breaks his silence on Tg1. The new scientific evidence in the Garlasco case
Andrea Sempio breaks the silence. Interviewed by Tg1 on February 16, the 37-year-old reiterated his non-involvement in the Garlasco crime: «The intimate video of Chiara and Alberto? I’ve never seen it. Neither I nor any of my friends have ever seen it.” A public, measured appearance that sounds both like a defense and a challenge at the same time.
Almost a year after the reopening of the investigations, Sempio remains at the moment the only person under investigation for the murder of Chiara Poggi. He declares himself sure that the victim’s family has maintained complete trust in him: “I don’t think there is the slightest suspicion or the slightest doubt on their side.” On the other hand, the Poggis have never made any secret of their consideration Alberto Stasi (already sentenced to 16 years in prison) the real culprit, and the new investigation a mere waste of time.
The Sempio situation
Regarding his own situation, Sempio appears confident, yes, but not entirely calm: «I think that the checks they have done so far, such as the results in the evidentiary hearing, always demonstrate the same thing, the version I gave the other time». And he adds: «I’m certainly not calm because in any case in a situation like this no one can say they are calm. The fact that there could be a request for indictment is something we have taken into account, if there is one we will deal with it. Also because the request for indictment is not precisely the certainty that there will then be a trial.”
But the alibi is the most fragile point of his position. That receipt produced years ago to prove that he was elsewhere at the time of the crime turned out to be a double-edged sword: it was his mother who collected it, not him. A detail which, combined with some scientific evidence that emerged during the new investigations (the DNA on Chiara’s nails and fingerprint 33), convinced the prosecutor’s office to keep him in their sights.
The videos on Chiara’s PC
One of the crucial points on which the new investigation focuses is the video found on Chiara Poggi’s PC, in which Sempio appears together with other friends and Chiara’s brother. But if Andrea only had relationships with Marco Poggi within the family, then why was he present on the victim’s PC? 37 tells Tg1 his version of events: «I think that obviously it would have been him and me (Marco) who put it on the computer. Because obviously I had the video, it would have been me and him who put it.”
The film which would instead constitute the motive, i.e. the intimate video by Chiara and Alberto StasiSempio instead categorically denies having watched it: “I also heard this thing here, but no, it’s not something that neither I nor I think any of my friends who frequented the house and had access to the computer have ever seen.”
