Niscemi, the reconstruction of the first days of the landslide that destroyed half the town

The Niscemi landslide in 8 days. By following the chronology of the orders issued by the Administration – in the end there will be 12 – we can reconstruct the picture that led to the disaster. There are 1,330 people who have had to abandon their homes; four ghost neighborhoods, dozens of homes in the red zone and those on the edge of the 50-meter precipice that are crumbling one after the other. It all began on January 16: on the western side, a landslide alarmed the town. The eviction of the first 8 homes is ordered. On the 18th the Civil Protection weather alert arrives: movement restrictions for two days. On the 21st, under Cyclone Harry, the Civil Protection reported the collapse of the external wall of a building and the roof of the structure. But it was four days later that the disaster occurred: the ridge of the hill collapsed, with a landslide of enormous dimensions (source Ansa Video).
