The board of directors appoints Comolli as CEO of Juventus; full powers to him and the opening of a new phase after the emergency of autumn 2022. He leaves Scanavino, sent by Elkann to rearrange the company’s accounts
The emergency is over, Juventus returns to being a football company with football professionals at the helm. The men in grey, called to the bedside of the Old Lady at the hardest moment, after the farewell of Andrea Agnelli and the entire board of directors in November 2022, leave Continassa. Not all of them immediately, but the signal is strong and brings the Juventus club back to normality.
The board of directors born from the assembly that approved the financial statements closed on 30 June 2025 with a negative sign of 58.1 million eurossignificantly better than the -199.3 of 2024, has formalized the appointment of Damien Comolli as new CEO. It takes the place of Maurizio Scanavinorushed to Continassa from John Elkann to normalize the situation in the midst of the storm of capital gains and salary maneuvers. Not everything has gone smoothly in these two and a half years, above all the field has returned results well below the economic commitment made by the owners, but the sign is that doctors are no longer needed at the bedside of the seriously ill.
Comolli CEO of Juventus, the official press release
The certification of a transition announced a couple of months ago arrived after the first board meeting: “The Board of Directors of Juventus Football Club SpA, which met today under the Chairmanship of Gianluca Ferrero, resolved, inter alia, on the appointment of corporate offices and the conferral of powers on the Directors, as well as the establishment of the internal board committees and the appointment of the relevant members. The Board of Directors has appointed Damien Comolli as Chief Executive Officer, with the simultaneous termination of the previous role of General Manager, granting him administrative powers substantially in continuity with the previous structure”.
Leaving aside the technicalities, the formalization of John Elkann’s desire to entrust the new Juventus Year Zero to the French manager who arrived in Turin last summer. And also to close the era of the so-called “government of technicians” who had to manage the emergency of sports and criminal investigations and who, however, failed in terms of sports planning.
Comolli new Juventus CEO, what does it mean
For Damien Comolli this is the formalization of an investiture that was already clear when he landed in Turin last summer. As general manager he had been indicated as the center of (yet another) new course, the man of decisions and reconstruction of the corporate structure, of difficult and even controversial choices. Now the role accompanies the delegations he holds. Scanavino on the side of rebalancing the accounts has exhausted their role.
He remains, for now, the president Gianluca Ferrero but the feeling is that it is a permanence that avoids the shock of a total change. For weeks the names of possible successors have been circulating, some with roots in the past like Jean Claude Blanc, and others suggestive like Michel Platini and Alex Del Piero: none of these ever really in the running. Today. We’ll see in the future.
