Ornella Vanoni: desire, madness, recklessness, joy

Four words contained in the title of a historic album, released in 1976, which they tell who was Ornella Vanoni. The desire, the madness, the unconsciousness, the joy is an album of music and poetry created with the Brazilian singer-songwriter Vinicius De Moraes and the guitarist Toquinho: a brilliant reinterpretation of well-known bossa nova themes.

It is the album of a mature performer, with an extraordinary voice and a unique personality in the field of Italian music, with a very intense voice, rich in different nuances and colors that goes perfectly with the style of Toquihno and the stylistic elegance of Vinícius De Moraes, a giant of bossa nova. The end result is a collection of great songs that exude music and sensuality.

The desire, the madness, the recklessness, the joy is a project of international scope, a splendid dialogue between voice and guitar pervaded by a soft but never banal sound, enriched by barely noticeable percussion and typically Brazilian melodies.

One of the first successful cases of contamination between different music and cultures. There Vanoni with his “accomplices” delves into the repertoire of sacred monsters such as Antonio Carlos Jobim and Chico Buarque: the songs are recorded live in the Fonit-Cetra studios in Rome, and blend into each other, giving life to a sort of concept album. Which received enthusiastic reviews and debuted in sixth place in the rankings.

Among the unforgettable songs, in addition to The desire and the madness, Samba of the rose, Another addio, I know that I will love you and Samba for Vinicius. Goodbye, Ornella.
