«Our music beyond all borders»

Born in the Philippines, raised in a scene that today looks straight at the world, BGYO are experiencing the moment in which everything accelerates. The numbers speak for themselves – over 100 million total streams, rankings achieved across half the planet, a global fan base that continues to grow – but there is something that goes beyond the metrics. It is a question of artistic posture, of an identity that becomes more compact, of a language that becomes more confident. Headlines is not just a new EP: it is a declaration of presence, an international business card that brings together Y2K aesthetics, smooth pop, sensuality, romanticism and a new awareness in the way of telling oneself.

After a path built step by step, between hits that have made the rounds on social media, increasingly important stages and a narrative that has also begun to travel outside Asia, BGYO enter a different phase: one in which they no longer chase the trend, but try to direct it. At the center is Dance With Me, a song that freezes an intimate moment, transforms it into sound and makes it universal. Revolving around desire, vulnerability, passion, the desire to experience love out loud, without discounts and without censorship. It’s an emotional tale that vibrates with its own light, supported by lush production and an increasingly mature balance between pop, R&B and P-Pop identities.

Between awards, international recognition, festivals and an increasingly global projection, BGYO today are no longer just a promise: they are a reality that moves confidently within an ever-changing scene. Behind Headlines there is a work of chisel, of choice, of personal growth even before musical growth. We met them to dig into this key moment, to tell us what it means for them to be BGYO today, what’s behind these new songs and what direction they’re really taking.

Panorama spoke to them.

Could you introduce yourself to Panorama readers?

BGYO: We are BGYO, a male pop group from the Philippines!

Your new EP Headlines has just been released. What does this project represent for BGYO at this moment in your journey?

GELO: Headlines represents our growth and confidence as artists. It shows a more mature and fearless side of BGYO as we continue to improve and evolve.

“Dance With Me” is a very intense and intimate song. Where did its concept come from and what do you hope listeners feel when they listen to it?

BGYO: When our listeners hear Dance With Me, we hope they find the courage to take that first step on the dance floor, or that first step into love, and connect with that special someone on a deeper level.

The song Headlines talks about a love so strong that it ends up in the newspapers. How did you approach writing and performing such a bold anthem?

MIKKI: The song Headlines was born during the ABS-CBN Music Camp 2024, where we were able to collaborate with international songwriters and producers. During the sessions we said we wanted to create an up-tempo R&B song, a song that would make you feel alive at a party. From that concept we built everything, adding ideas until the piece was complete.

“All These Ladies” has a playful and international feel. How does it reflect the group’s growth and global ambition?

FROST: Shows our funniest and most confident side, celebrating all the beautiful girls and wonderful people around the world. It proves that we can blend global sounds while maintaining our Filipino identity.

The sound inspired by the Y2K years is very present in the EP. Why did you choose this aesthetic and how does it relate to today’s audiences?

BGYO: The Y2K sound was perfect to mix with the concepts of the songs on the EP. It’s also something that our listeners, and people around the world, find enjoyable and engaging to listen to.

Each of you brings something unique to the group. How do you balance individuality and unity in BGYO’s music?

BGYO: Everyone brings the best of themselves and shares their ideas, insights and experiences with others. It’s also nice that everyone has a different personality and character: this creates a balance between our styles and our “nuances”.

You have exceeded 100 million total streams. How do you stay grounded as your global presence continues to grow?

GELO: Let’s keep our feet on the ground by remembering our roots, the reason why we do all this: our families, the management who supported us and the fans who have been with us since day one.

BGYO have been reported by the Recording Academy and important international media. How do you experience this recognition, from the Philippines to the global stage?

GELO: This has always been our goal. It’s something that humbles us and motivates us so much at the same time, knowing that our music goes beyond borders and represents the Philippines on a world stage.

Your performances are known for energy and precision. What is the biggest challenge in maintaining both the vocal and choreographic level at the highest level?

GELO: The biggest challenge is balance: managing to maintain energy and strong voices, giving everything in every single performance.

How has the relationship with your fans, the ACEs, influenced your way of making music?

BGYO: Their constant love and support, through the highs and the lows, pushes us to do better, to create music that resonates with them and shows how much we appreciate and love them.

You just played at the Summer Sonic Festival in Bangkok. What was the experience like for you as artists?

BGYO: Performing at the Summer Sonic Festival in Bangkok was an incredible experience. Sharing the stage with international artists and representing OPM on such an important platform was both humbling and inspiring. It motivated us to grow further and bring our music to more and more people around the world.

The name BGYO encompasses a mission of empowerment and change. How do you see this mission evolving as you grow?

GELO: As we grow, our mission becomes deeper: to show empowerment through music and through how we represent being Filipino. It is essential to start from ourselves, evolve and mature as individuals, because this reflects on the group and, above all, on others. Music is a very powerful tool to spread positive messages, inspire and give strength to people, representing what it means to be Filipino, to become the change and always go further.

Looking to the future, what collaborations or genres would you like to explore?

MIKKI: It would be fun to experiment more with genres like UK garage and house. The up-tempo sound is perfect for our young energy and dance! I also think that trying a sad ballad would show a side of BGYO that audiences have never seen, and it would be really inspiring.

Finally, what message do you want to share with your fans around the world?

BGYO: Thank you for growing with us and believing in us. Let’s keep dreaming together. We will always give our best for you. We love you, always and in every way!
