“Para-mafia system”. Opposition to the attack, but the minister used the words of the prosecutors themselves

Nordio’s words against the CSM unleash opposition. It’s a shame that the minister simply repeated statements from the prosecutors themselves, one of whom is a PD MEP.

As the referendum on justice it seems that the opposition wants to raise the bar against the much hated separation of careers and reform of Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSM).

The recent ferocious attacks against the Minister of Justice cannot be interpreted otherwise Carlo Nordioguilty of having compared the CSM to a “para-mafia” organization. The choir of indignados he immediately stood up in unison, loudly demanding the minister’s apology.

Nordio’s true words

First of all, however, it is necessary to clarify the true words of the Keeper of the Seals. It all starts from an interview given to Morning in Padua.

In it the minister attacked the CSM current account systemstating that «the Council draw (as postulated by the reform, ed.) will break this para-mafia mechanism, this wormhole, as the former anti-mafia prosecutor Roberti defined it».

Nordio then reported that 97% of magistrates are registered to the National Association of Magistratesasserting that «if you don’t sign up you don’t have a career. And when the CSM is elected, the phone calls begin.” «The draw – he added – breaks this mechanism, this current vermin“, also defined as “a cow market».

Nordio’s expressions are the same ones used by magistrates

As the reader will have already guessed, the fundamental words on which the case broke out are “para-mafia mechanism” and “cow market”. It’s a shame that defining the election mechanism of the “para-mafia” CSM was nothing less than the public prosecutor Nino Di Matteoduring the 2019 National Magistrates Association assembly.

The expression “cow market”, however, we owe to the former National Anti-Mafia Prosecutor, Franco Robertiwith the minister Nordio who limited himself to reporting words already expressed by the magistrates.

Roberti, then elected MEP of the Democratic Partyhad used the expression “cow market” in an interview given to SkyTg24, in the aftermath of the outbreak of Palamara casealso defining the behavior of the magistrates involved (revealed by Palamara himself and by wiretaps) as «conduct that lies outside the constitutional order».

The opposition’s accusations

At the time, however, there was no referendum in sight, so the Democratic Party and the 5 Star Movement were not at all indignant. for the words used by the former Anti-Mafia Prosecutor.

Today the situation is different, so here is the secretary of the Democratic Party Elly Schleinon the sidelines of an initiative in Bari, declared: “Waking up to an interview with Minister Nordio who assimilates magistrates to mafiosi is a very serious thing, especially if it is the Minister of Justice who does it. We expect an apology from the minister».

The dem leader also added that the comparison «it also insults the history of so many judiciaries that have fought for years against the mafiaswhich he paid with the price of his life. We’re talking about people like Paolo Borsellino, Giovanni Falcone, Rosario Livatino, Rocco Chinnici.”

Also Giuseppe Conte intervened harshly: «Minister Nordio compares the functioning of justice with all the judges who work there to ‘para-mafia’ dynamics. It happens after the majority has thrown mud at Gratteri for days, a magistrate who risks his life in the fight against the mafia.”

The prosecutor Nicola Gratterifor his part, instead cut it short: “For me these words are not commented on at all. Or they comment on themselves. In any case, unacceptable.”

Nordio’s response

The minister responded to the controversy with a note: «I don’t understand so much indignation over my statements on the currents of the CSM. I limited myself to quoting Nino Di Matteo’s statementsa well-known prosecutor taken as a model by the Democratic Party and the left.”

«Di Matteo – continues the note – he spoke of ‘mafia mentality and method‘. Other exponents of the ‘No party’ expressed themselves, at the time, in an even more brutal way. We will make a list and publish it.”

In short, the only unacceptable thing here is the exploitation of the left.
