Armored summit in Rai on the future of Sigfrido Ranucci. Among the hypotheses is a relocation to Tg3 or Rainews, while tension remains high on Report
The one in Rai was an armored meeting.
In fact, no news has been leaked about what the CEO, Giampaolo Rossi, the director of Legal Affairs, Francesco Spadafora, and the director of Human Resources, Felice Ventura, said about the Ranucci case. These are decisive days for the (now former) Report host. And everything, around Via Severo, must be done in the best possible way to avoid legal disputes.
So the silence is total. Also because the parliamentarians of the 5 Star Movement in the Rai Supervisory Commission are already on a war footing. In a note, in fact, they defined Ranucci’s possible removal from Report as a “political decision” due to his relationship with Valter Lavitola.
Rai is studying Ranucci’s relocation
Every decision will therefore be dictated by prudence, and this is why the decision on Ranucci will come at the last minute. The relocation of the Report host to another newspaper is on the table. He could go to Tg3 or Rainews, where he has already worked in the past. And that is precisely what CEO Rossi is working on, who is trying to present the host with a proposal capable of satisfying him. A practically impossible mission, given that Ranucci only cares about one thing: remaining at the helm of Report.
The clash over Report’s leadership
A scenario that is now impossible, however. “In these hours and days the Rai top management is working to remove me from Report,” the journalist wrote in the evening. We will probably reach a wall against a wall. So no deal. We will then move on to three formal contractual proposals and the tenant will then choose whether to accept one. At that point the decision would be solely up to Ranucci. Who, among other things, finds himself increasingly alone. Roberto Saviano, who had intervened in his defense immediately after the attack, also criticized the host of Report: «The real poison, which acts as flypaper according to the judge, is precisely politics, the idea of oneself, fame, the messages from fans sent to friends (“millions of Italians want you to lead the country”), the popularity polls, the correct poll grid, because as Ranucci writes, “it must be done well otherwise it is useless”. It is the heart of this whole story. The idea of oneself, which fills the pages of a book (The Choice) in which real or alleged love stories are told, one of which ends badly, with the protagonist who, after having come in a few minutes a few pages earlier, is run over and dies due to Siegfried’s betrayal. It is always the idea of himself, of being “among his people” as he said a few days ago, that makes him entertain the idea of running for office.
Ranucci: «What’s better than Report? Sanremo?”
Having arrived in Cerveteri for the presentation of his book Diary of a trapeze artist, the Report host commented on the possibility of going to direct the RAI journalism school in Perugia: «You move Sigfrido Ranucci because he is not suited to you and you put him to teach to train another 100 Sigfrido Ranuccis. And then what do you do, move them to him?”. And he then added: «I have a clear conscience and I would do everything I did again.
In my career I have been a correspondent, editor-in-chief, I have been to war zones and I have put my life at risk, creating international scoops. And I hosted a program that is the flagship of public television. I did everything I had to, honoring Rai with a clean criminal record. I went through 240 lawsuits and other citations. I have a clear conscience. The others instead? Finally, on the possibility of new assignments: «But what’s better than Report? Sanremo?”.
The defense of the lawyer Roberto De Vita
Ranucci’s lawyer, Roberto De Vita, when faced with the rumors about his client, intervened with a note: «When the guilty party ignores guilt, the truth has already given way to persecution.
The intensity, the volume, the persistence of the fury towards Sigfrido Ranucci who does not back down even in the face of the magistrates’ assessments should be disturbing.
A damnatio in life that feeds on falsehood and evil consciences, and on new inquisitors who daily for an instant of visibility amplify and add by force of pen or story an unprecedented and even mendacious act to the theater of the absurd. Faced with this accusatory horror vacui, Rai should protect Ranucci to protect itself and the democratic mission of which every journalist is an expression.”
But perhaps, at this moment, precisely to protect Report and Rai, Ranucci should be the one to take a step back.
