The new Pope is Robert Francis Prevost, who has chosen the name of Leone XIV.
Born in Chicago in 1955, Leone XIV is the first US Pope in the history of the Catholic Church. Member of the Order of Sant’Agostino, he played missions in Peru and held the role of prefect of the Dicastery for the bishops.
His election took place in the fourth scrutiny of the Conclave.
His choice represents a balance between the different ecclesial currents, with the aim of continuing the path of reform and opening started by his predecessors.
