Hundreds of indications and some basic criteria, such as the new international calendar imposed by FIFA: this is how the 2026/2027 Serie A championship calendar was born.
Ready, go! Serie A discovers its cards well in advance and publishes the 2026/2027 championship calendar. A choice of transparency that is now a few years old and which serves to allow fans to begin not only to dream, but also to organize their autumn and winter weeks. The race to take over the legacy of Italian champion Inter will start on the weekend of August 23rd and end on May 30th 2027: 38 days to design which the Lega Calcio Serie A algorithms had to digest hundreds of indications and requests in order to avoid dangerous overlaps.
Serie A 2026/2027: what changes for the breaks and the calendar
The season starting in August will be the first with the new calendar of windows dedicated to national team activity. Goodbye triple stop in autumn (September-October-November), here is the merger decided by FIFA, not without controversy, and which should at least partially limit the travel of the top players. The September and October breaks will be combined into a single longer break, during which the national teams will be able to take the field up to four times.
The other windows for the national teams, which will involve a stop to club activity, are scheduled between 9 and 16 November 2026 and between 22 and 30 March 2027. There will be no games at Christmas: the championship will be stopped on the weekend of 26 and 27 December.
The impact on Serie A is that the championship will continue without stopping for a month, after starting at the end of August, and then interrupting for two weekends: Sunday 27 September and Sunday 4 October 2026. The asymmetry of the top flight’s calendar has been confirmed, i.e. the sequence of matches is different between the first and second half of the season with a minimum of 8 matchdays that must elapse for the same match to be scheduled.
Serie A 2026/2027: midweek and derby rounds
In the 2026/2027 Serie A calendar there are only two midweek rounds. they will be days 9 (October 28) and 18 (January 6). All other rounds will fall on competition weekends. Something changes regarding the derbies, also given the controversies linked to the one in Rome at the same time as the week of the Italian Internationals at the Foro Italico and with the need to drag other challenges linked to the contemporaneity of the last two days: the city matches will be scheduled on different days and cannot be on the first or last day, nor in the weekday midweek round (day 9).
In the note from the Lega Calcio Serie A another confirmation regarding the teams involved in the European cups: those who make the Champions League will not be able to face the participants of the Europa League or Conference League on the 7th, 21st, 25th, 28th, 31st, 34th matchdays. These are the rounds that are included between two UEFA competition matches “back to back” (i.e. non-stop) and for the 4th matchday limited to the clubs participating in the Europa League.
