Simona Cinà, the yellow that shakes Bagheria: what really happened?

From the position of the body to the traces of alcohol, to the videos disappeared from the social networks: the dark points of the death of the young athlete in the villa of Bagheria

Bagheria, Palermo. A degree party, a swimming pool illuminated in half, dozens of boys, canceled videos and too many different reconstructions. Five days later, on the death of Simona Cinà, 20 years old, athlete, still no truth: only discrepancies, silences and a chronicle that seems written to several hands, each with a different version of the facts.

The last night of Simona

It is Friday evening when Simona Cinà, Capaci’s volleyball player without any health problem, leaves for a degree party in Bagheria. Travel with friends, films the road to the luxury villa overlooking the sea, placed on social media. At one in the morning he writes to the mother: “I will swim, I put the cell phone away”. It’s the last message.

At 4.50 the mother, worried about the delay, calls her daughter. A boy replies: “Run, he’s badly”. When the family arrives, Simona is already dead, in bikini, by the pool, signs of a clumsy heart massage on the chest. Until then, nobody had warned them.

According to the lawyers, the garden was strangely clean: only bags of bottles of water, no trace of alcohol, yet in the videos of the party they flowed cocktails. “Has anyone cleaned up the scene?” Ask the parents. The videos of the party disappear from social networks in the following hours, and some details – like a glass found next to men’s briefs in the garden – are not acquired by investigators for DNA.

The version of the prosecutor: traces of alcohol, rescue attempts and a body on the bottom

After 72 hours of rumors and suspicions, the Public Prosecutor of Termini Imerese replies point by point, tracing a different story. The guests, the prosecutors say, have not covered anything: they collaborated, said they dived into the pool after seeing the body on the bottom, in an unlined corner, around 4 am. They pulled it out, they tried to revive her until the arrival of the rescue, but Simona was probably already dead.

It is not true, the magistrates write, that the area was without alcoholic traces: glasses and remains of drinks were present and documented. It is not true that the dresses of the twenty year olds disappeared: a green tank top, a miniskirt and other clothing were seized by the carabinieri. Nor is it true, according to the prosecutor, that the scene has been altered.

The dynamics of the discovery also changes: for the lawyers of the Simona family was to face up, “difficult to think about a drowning”, they say. For the prosecutor’s office he was face to face, in water for several minutes. A detail that opens another chasm of uncertainties: who saw it first? Why nobody noticed that he was sick, with dozens of people around the swimming pool?

The still dark points

The file is for manslaughter against unknown persons. Thursday the autopsy will try to give a first name to the causes of death: sudden illness, drowning, or something different. But too many questions remain around Simona:

  • The late call: why is the mother felt only after 4.50, when the girl was probably already deceased?
  • The disappeared alcohol: the photos taken by the lawyers show an immaculate garden, but the power of attorney ensures that the tracks were there.
  • The missing objects: the console of the DJ disappears the next day because it “served for another party”, a glass near male briefs is not seized.
  • The erased videos: many content of the evening are removed from social media shortly after the tragedy.

The villa, from one million and two hundred thousand euros of value, has not been sealed. The cadastral visures stop in 1997: who is the current owner? For now, nobody clarifies it.

Parallel truths that are not touched

The family does not accuse, but asks for answers: “We do not want controversy, we are on the side of the truth”, the parents say, who will be heard today by the carabinieri. The Prosecutor promises in -depth investigations. But the two versions, the official one and that of those who have lost a daughter, continue to walk on separate roads.

And so the death of Simona Cinà, five days later, remains a yellow full of black holes, a chronicle that slips between the silence of those who know but does not speak and the half truths of a night that had to end between music and laughter. And instead it has become a mystery that Palermo cannot explain.
