Medvedev beaten after a very tough match with the Russian responding blow for blow: the South Tyrolean wins thanks to two tiebreaks, in the second he comes back from 0-4 and scores seven consecutive points
The blue day that started with Kimi Antonelli’s victory in Shanghai ends on the other side of the world, in Indian Wells where Jannik Sinner wins the Apt 1000 trophy after a tough final against the Russian Medvedev. And Jannik dedicates his victory in California to the nineteen-year-old driver from Bologna. The beauty of young people and the courage of these kids crosses the world and makes us a little more proud of being Italian. For Sinner it is the twenty-fifth tournament won in his career, but it is the first success at Indian Wells. It was a very tough match played below 34 degrees in Indian Wells and Daniil Medvedev after the splendid match won against Alcaraz demonstrated that he is back in great condition. He returns to the top ten in the world and shows that despite his 30 years he can get close to Alcaraz and Sinner. Balance was the characteristic of the whole match, no breaks and inevitable solution to the tie-break. In the first set Sinner managed the decisive moments in the best possible way, always leading and then closing 8-6 at the second set point. Same thing in the second set, but towards the end Sinner suffered a very heavy miss pass and Medvedev scored eight consecutive points: the first four served to take him to the tie-break, the second four gave him a 4-0 lead in the tie-break and the third set at this point seemed inevitable. Instead Sinner scored seven consecutive points, finally finding the courage to take a risk on Medvedev’s second service ball and incredibly won 7-4, closing the match in two sets. He didn’t lose a single set throughout the tournament
Sinner’s happiness and dedication
Jannik expressed all his happiness at the end of the match: “We are very happy, we have trained hard since the first day, I am happy that Medvedev is back at great levels. I was 4-0 down in the tie-break of the second set, but I continued to believe in it, to push and look for my shots. It was wonderful to play here, Now I know what it means to play in tennis heaven. And finally, it has nothing to do with Italy, but I’m a big fan of Formula 1 and I am very happy that Kimi Antonelli won the Grand Prix in China. Long live Kimi, long live Formula 1.” And now tennis is moving to the other side of America, we’re going to Miami. Where Sinner obviously only has victory on his mind.
