“Niuiorchcherubini” is a great jam session recorded live on analogue tape
A surprise album to underline that music is not an algorithm nor a product of artificial intelligence. Made in a handful of days between Brooklyn Recording and Astoria (Queens), the album has the mood and sound of a great jam session and was recorded live on analogue tape. In practice, a live performance in the studio, without editing, retouching or overdubs. The title of the album, NIUIORCHERUBINI, is a tribute to the famous live performance FROM AMERICARUSO.
«This album wasn’t planned. Overwhelmed by news of wars and a feeling of helplessness in the face of human madness, I thought I’d immerse myself in something I love and that makes me feel in the flow of life. This thing I love is music, which doesn’t stop wars and doesn’t solve emergencies, but music is what I do, and I dedicate myself body and soul to it, entrusting my emotions to it. I love music, above all I love hearing it being born: the recording studio, the instruments, the microphones, the words that become melodies, rhythm, songsthe. So together with Federico Nardelli, a musician producer who I had recently met, I contacted some friends from New York, a city significant for my history as a music and pop culture enthusiast. Through friends and friends of friends and acquaintances of musician friends in a flash we organized a week of sessions, or rather 6 days to be precise” says Jovanotti.
NIUIORCHERUBINI is a lightning album, made of intuitions in which every take that worked was kept: a hymn to imperfection, where imperfections become living music and not errors to be corrected.
The result is a real album, made of beautiful songs and music that vibrates, with some peaks like Without ifs or buts, Pura vida, Without gravity, The music of the soul and Shiva Jam. The band featured in the sessions is a collective of musicians from different worlds: salsa, soul, afrobeat, tropicalism, funk – chosen for their ability to generate unpredictability and movement
«New York is a city of music, one of the most decisive ever. In the second part of the 20th century it was certainly the most important of all cities. The city of cities. When, after years of growing up listening to music that came from there and feeding on its imagery, I finally had enough to buy a plane ticket and get a hotel room, arriving in Manhattan was like coming home. I felt I belonged in New York more than the place where I was physically born. His music, especially hip hop with all its influences, was mine, that was my sonic and visual religion” he explains. «Over the years I have been to New York a lot, I have escaped from it and returnedI loved her rejected and loved again. It’s a great love story, she doesn’t know it, because she ignores her lovers, like queens do, like divinities do. New York feeds on our dreams, our plans and our desperation. New York is the port of immigrants seeking fortune, the music that is born in New York is always the music of the world and the world is reflected in this city. New York is an archetype, an infinite tarot deck, one of Calvino’s “invisible cities”. These songs are not about New York, these songs speak to New York, therefore to the world».
