August 15, 1965: for the first time a group performs the stadium. And the “beatlemania” spreads all over the world
They innovated music like no other beatles. From a musical point of view, but not only. On August 15, 1965 they inaugurate the season of concerts in the stadiums. Before them no one had launched into a company of this size. A total challenge, starting with the sound diffusion system that for the first time had to have the power to reach tens of thousands of people.
The place chosen to host the American Baatlemania adepts is it Shea Stadium in New York. Fifty -five thousand and six hundred tickets sold For a historical event, the first real crowd bath in the history of pop. From a technical point of view, the show was a disaster. The amplification was evidently unsuitable and the voices of the Beatles They were covered for almost the entire duration of the show from the screams of the fans. Having said that, that day the horizon of popular music changed forever. And the amplification systems were rethought to adapt to the characteristics of the stadiums.
“Ladies and gentlemen, venerated by their country, decorated by their queen, loved here in America, here are the Beatles!”. With these words the Fab Four were introduced to the crowd. The four arrived inside the stadium aboard a Wells Fargo van. The volume of the screams of the fans is impressive. In the documentary film “The Beatles at the Shea Stadium” you can clearly see the men of the Security stopped the ears to protect themselves from the deafening screams of the public.
Screams, which as we said before, continued for the entire duration of the performance, preventing the beatles from hearing what they were playing and singing. The documentary The Beatles – Eight Days in Week, Directed by Ron Howard and released in theaters in 2016, it contains thirty minutes of perfectly restored images taken from the performance at the Shea Stadium.
