Stop to diesel Euro 5, everything you need to know

From 1 October the new prohibition takes place, which the government is trying to postpone. Here are all the useful information not to be found unprepared by the tight on the Euro 5 diesel vehicles.

The date of October 1st becomes closer and closer. That day in four regions of northern Italy (Piedmont, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Veneto) the ban on the movement of all Euro 5 diesel vehicles will start. If the Draconian Green measure, to which the Minister of Transport Matteo Salvini promised To oppose, it was approved, more than a million private and commercial vehicles will remain in the whole Po Valley. Of course, the wish is that this measure does not enter into force, but for any eventuality, Here are some important information not to be found unprepared from any (and yet another) eco-greene madness.

How will the prohibition on diesel Euro 5 work? It will start on October 1, 2025 in the four regions already mentioned, will be valid from Monday to Friday from 7:30 to 19:30 (the times could vary from region to region) and will concern the Euro 5 private and commercial diesel vehicles, which will not be able to circulate in the municipalities with more than 30 thousand inhabitants. In Lombardy the measure will be valid all year round, while the other regions have imposed a seasonal stop, from October to April.

How to understand the class of your vehicle? An easy way is to consult your own registration booklet. It is divided into four sections, each identified by a number on the blue background positioned at the top right. In box 2, under item V9, the number of the Community Regulation is indicated which allowed the vehicle approval. In any case, the most explicit information is found in box 3, where the abbreviation of the regulation accompanied, in brackets, appears by the specification of the “Euro Euro” belonging.

Are there derogations from the ban? Yes, one of these can be used by those who do not use their vehicle a lot. To obtain the derogation, the Move-in must be installed, a device that traces the movements and requires an annual mileage limit. It is, in fact, a derogation based on the kilometers traveled, which allows the owners of more dated vehicles to circulate freely, without per hour or daily constraints. To activate the system, it is necessary to install a GPS on the vehicle, which monitors the routes and record the distance traveled. If you exceed the established limit, the vehicle will no longer be able to access limited traffic areas until the end of the block period.

The penalties provided? Here we are at the most painful note. The fines foreseen for the first infringement of the circulation ban is 168 euros, in the event of a recurrence within two years, another 168 euros will be paid and there will also be the suspension of the license for a period ranging from 15 to 30 days.

The hope is that the government stops yet another greene on families and businesses. Fortunately, signs in this sense came from Minister Salvini, who claimed to be at work for an amendment to the Infrastructure Decree that sets a brake on this umpteenth and grotesque measure against citizens and businesses, forced to forcefully change their vehicle with consequent (and huge) economic expenses.
