Thanks to Parkour, the world is my playground

Marco Sergi, two and a half million followers between Instagram, Tiktok and YouTube, “aka” @Markour. A name that perfectly blends the words Marco (his name, his personality) and Parkour (his greatest passion, discovered when he was not yet a teenager). Chatting with him, the attention he puts in making his content emerges immediately. Marco does not only teach how to have a statuesque physique by training with free body (and he is the authentic test), but behind his videos, where he shows irony and ability not to take himself too seriously, he deals with acute themes, such as science, health and movement.

Marco, when did you start training?

“My path with training started as a boy, when I started with Parkour. Parkour because I fascinated the platform -style video games, where the character has to run, jump, climb, substantially a thousand acrobatics to reach the next level; I loved Crash Bandicoot. As a child, I have never been linked to the passions of my friends. They were fascinated by the football world, I preferred individual sports. Parkour is a discovery that I did first on a recreational video level and then informing me thanks to the research made on the web.

Among other things, chosen accompanied by a good dose of courage: it must not be easy at all approaching this self -taught sport …

“I would say that the parkour is dangerous in the perspective of those who do not practice it, and in the final perspective of observation of the jump. In reality it is a discipline that is practiced in a very, very gradual way. A game of a soccer, made at an amateur level, can be more dangerous, without adequate preparation. Parkour is a philosophy of life, which accompanies you to prepare yourself physically in facing the paths, obstacles, movements. I have always trained free body, 90% of the training I do, use what surrounds me in the world, taking advantage of the Parkour philosophy to adapt to the environment and circumstances. The world is a playground: this is the main concept that has accompanied me over the years “.

And, speaking of adaptation, you gave birth to your social profiles, with almost two and a half million followers.

“I started in 2022 with a more static communication at a simple at the popular level. At the end of 2023, I then adopted a different style, more extroverted, nice dynamic, which is linked to a more ironic world: this allowed me to make the difference. In any case, any communication of mine has always been dictated by the passion towards science and the sharing of information, and it allowed me to grow. My profiles, it is essentially linked to the value of communication itself, and never to sponsor or advertising “.

You have two degrees, you are clinical chinesiologist: what do you explain to us in this figure?

“The clinical chinesiologist operates in the biomedical field and, to become so, studies on very specific subjects are needed that deal with the well -being of the person at 360 degrees. It concerns prevention and re -education, but has not to do only with training or with physical activity: it embraces everything that concerns health. Health sociology, handicap psychology, physiology of the exercise, clinical anatomy. They are subjects that deal with human biology in different aspects, to understand how the individual interacts with the external environment, and how the external environment influences the person. Everything “(at the suggestion of a certain Socrates)”.

Your videos have the characteristic of being light, clear, fun and direct. Basically, however, there is always the seriousness of your work and your studies. And it is precisely this competence that makes them credible and effective.

“Effective communication aims precisely to competence, which must be the basis of the popular content. It is here that the nuance between knowledge and competence is transformed n a clear border; competence belongs to the person who has made his own knowledge. Transforming a complex language into a simple language, which arrives clearly and directly, is a challenge that allows you to grow”.

Without going into details or making names, you lived a somewhat annoying story with another content creator, which used your video (complete with a name and face), to try to discredit you, probably to get some more visibility. The way you replied was however kind and professional. How do you report in these cases?

“I care that people understand the relevance of information and, between professionals, we should collaborate to create a scientific comparison, a comparison between brains. There may be more specialized figures in certain areas rather than in others, but to devalue someone’s work to assert their personal image, it is never something correct. Science is an observation without emotional attachment; the same should be for the content on social media. Adopted, ironic or set, we should speak of the content and not of the container.

Watching your videos, you often see you in quadrupedia: where does this idea come from?

“It is a topic, perhaps better to say a position, which is very close to my heart and that I carefully deepened. In the early years of university, I was so concentrated to study, that at a certain point, I was born a curiosity (I don’t remember exactly where, nor when). I asked myself why the monkeys were so strong and muscular, without following a strengthening program. energy saving) like ours.

Dragonball And Goku: a cardboard (better, a souls) and a character often mentioned in your videos. Why did you choose them and inspire you?

“With Dragonball I grew up, it was the cartoon of my childhood, as children we were fascinated by the methods, even very accentuated, with which those characters faced certain situations. Growing up, and concerning him when he was retransmitted on TV, I had the opportunity to reconfrite me with the anime, with that cardboard, in a phase of my growth in which I approached importantly to the training: seeing these characters who accompanied me during Childhood face difficulties and training situations with determination, it has been extremely inspirational. The character of Goku, in particular, inspired me in a more evident and followed way, because there is not only training in him, but character components with which he faces life and becomes a staple for others. He is a character able to forgive, to protect others, he has the aptitude to never give up: all components that we human beings would like to have, which however biology leads us not to evaluate as primary tools to face life. Goku Crescendo made my eyes a littlenot speaking directly to Marco, but giving Marco the opportunity to observe the growth of the character. Growth that I try to insert in all my content “.
