The conference of La Verità on the energy transition

In the debate promoted by La Verità institutions and companies have faced the future of energy in Italy between gas, nuclear and renewable

The energy transition, its lights and its shadows were at the center of the event organized by La Verità entitled Environment, sustainability, energy and conducted by the director Maurizio Belpietro and the deputy director Giuliano Zulin. Among the guests, the Minister of the Environment, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin and the President of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana.

Interviewed by the director Belpietro, the president of Ascopiave, Nicola Cecconato, underlined that the gas remains “central as a qualifying element to guarantee safety and energy transition”. That the gas, in fact, will be used for a long time is also evident from the results of the “Global Gas Report” according to which the gas can be used up to “2050”. The president of Ascopiave, however, also pointed out that “will be progressively replaced with other types” that “could be biogas or even synthetic gases”. Therefore “networks must be infrastructured and be adapted because they will certainly be used for other uses”.

Regarding renewable sources, Maria Cristina Papetti, Head of Esg Stakeholder and Just Transition of Enel, pointed out to Chenon, it is enough to “guarantee a generation of green energies if you do not work on the infrastructure”. Papetti therefore recalled that “Enelha invested only in the 2025-2027 plan, 23 billion on the technological renewal of the network”. The director of Engineering and realization of projects of Terna, Maria Rosaria Guarniere, in reference to Terna stressed that “has carried out a series of important development interventions on the electricity network”. In fact, it is necessary to “adapt the electrical system to new needs” both for connection and transport, but also for “to guarantee operation in safety and taking into account a strong digitization and decentralization of what are the sources of supply”.

The made in Italy in the transition

The Group Quality & Sustainability Director of BF, Marzia Ravanelli, spoke of sustainability in terms of agriculture. In the case of BF, he explained that “through the technical means that are made available and even computer science we try to give the ground what he needs, he needs, when he needs, trying to obviously limit the use of resources”. Regarding the sustainability plans, Barilla’s Project Engine, Nicola Perizzolo, spoke. Who explained that “was built” in the company “an ESG board, therefore specific for the objectives to be brought home”. Generali’s Group Head of Sustainability of Business Integration stressed that “in recent years” the theme “of sustainability” has been integrated “in all business areas”. While regarding the question of the catastrophic policy, given that “subscriptions arrive” entrepreneurs are becoming aware of its relevance.

Offshore: the blue frontier of the transition

Even the general manager of Renexia, Riccardo Toto, recognized that one should not think “that the energy mix may ignore the gas, because the gas serves and will always be needed”. Regarding renewable energies, he underlined that “they are not only necessary for the environment” but they can “also be necessary for the pockets of the Italians”. It has therefore made it known that “renewables are an opportunity to create work” and to “start a new supply chain, especially the wind farm”. These are “market that can be worth up to 45 billion added value for the Italian economy”. In this regard, he recalled: “We signed a protocol with Minister Urso for which we have identified an area in particular in Abruzzo in order to be able to give birth to this factory that would create 3,200 jobs” but the timing depends on the revision of the Fer X decree.

Sustainable finance

To take stock of the Green Bond was the president of Generalfinance, Maurizio Dallocchio. “It is necessary that there is clarity on where the Green Bond is invested, which must have a significantly lower performance than the performance of an institutional title”. He stressed that “one cannot think of with a pendulum of pushing the research even from a financial point of view and all in one direction simply because there is ideologically there is going”.

Energy, environment, sustainability

The Minister of the Environment, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, he recalled that to satisfy the demand for energy “there is no other solution than the new nuclear: I am convinced that they will be small reactors, now the road is towards small reactors”. However, “they are not alternative to other sources, to renewables, but supplementary”. He added that an element that guarantees “security and stability” are “the two large coal plants, those of Brindisi and Civitavecchia” seen “the Moon Chiari who are at the geopolitical and international level, with a war in Europe a stone’s throw, Gaza, the Huthhi”. And as already emerged in the previous debates, the minister also said that “the gas, which is the least harmful of the fossils, will accompany us for the next decades. Before supplanting the gas, it will take fourth generation nuclear or merger ». Regarding the electric, he commented: “I believe there was a great agreement in making the European Championships pay the transformation of the electricity”, adding: “Nobody takes away the idea that Timmermans has imposed the 2035 bond of the car houses” and reiterated that the goal of zero emissions since 2035 must be changed, especially because Brussels imposed the type of engine. On the sidelines of the event then announced that “there is the intention of the government to make a series of assessments also on the methods of intervention” on dear energy, including “the auctions that we are doing on renewables, which we hope have a very low price and this serves to go to rebalance compared to the price of the gas, which is the one that determines the real bill and which is the one that weighs most of everything”.

The president of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, also said he was in favor of nuclear power. “Hydroelectric, photovoltaic, geothermal, nuclear: there is not only one way, a mix is needed,” he said. Also because “we cannot cover 20,000 hectares of fields with solar panels” since it is “a huge risk for agriculture”. Regarding the hydroelectric concessions, he commented: «We immediately placed a condition: a share of energy must be destined for the territories. Those who host dams and plants undergo ailments and constraints “and are therefore” just that in return it receives benefits “. Fontana has also expressed its support for geothermal as a “clean and inexhaustible resource”, therefore: “In Lombardy we are ready to promote its use, if the national government is space”.
