The Pope writes to the editorial staff for the 25th anniversary of Tgcom24. Pier Silvio Berlusconi: «Words that we welcome with responsibility»
To celebrate the first quarter of a century of Tgcom24, Pope Leo XIV addressed a message to director Andrea Pucci and to all journalists. In the letter, the Holy Father praised the work of the Mediaset newspaperunderlining the importance of the work carried out in these twenty-five years.
«I would like to send my cordial greetings and my appreciation for the service that this newspaper carries out on a daily basis in favor of information. In a time marked by significant changes and words too often shouted on the web, the task of the media becomes an important mission.”
«I urge you to continue building bridges of dialogue, encouraging a narrative that does not stop at the surface of the news, but that is able to look with respect, solidarity and compassion at the outskirts of suffering».
The Pontiff also recalls the ethical responsibility of journalistic work: «The search for truth requires always being accompanied by a profound sense of ethical responsibility, counteracting the spread of fake news and promoting a culture of encounter that unites the different souls of our society. Information, when it is free and respectful of human dignity, becomes a powerful tool for edifying the people of readers and listeners on the path towards an unarmed and persevering peace.”
The Pope concludes the message by entrusting the work of the editorial team to the protection of Saint Francis de Sales and imparting the Apostolic Blessing.
Tgcom was born on 8 March 2001 and developed over the years until the birth of the all news channel Tgcom24 and a multi-platform information system of the Mediaset Group, strongly supported by Pier Silvio Berlusconi.
