The people of Legnano pay homage to Manzoni

La Teresa, Il Giovanni and La Mabilia bring a modern show to the theater, remaining faithful to their unmistakable tradition

After the resounding success of “Remember the Bonsai” last year, with 156 dates and over 160,000 people brought to the theatre, the Legnanesi return to the scene, this time to pay homage to Manzoni. Both Manzoni understood as “Teatro Manzoni”, making him the protagonist of the comedy, and Alessandro Manzoni, that “Lisander” whose masterpiece they took inspiration from to create a combination of fun, laughter (those, with them, are never lacking) and a touch of modernity.

From January 8th to February 22nd, with 44 dates, Antonio Provasio (Teresa), Enrico Dalceri (Mabilia) and Italo Giglioli (Giovanni) will entertain the Milanese public with the show “I Promossi Sposi”by Mitia Del Brocco.
The plot is quickly explained: The marriage certificate of Teresa and Giovanni can no longer be found. Giovanni will be desperate, Teresa will feel liberated, Mabilia will try to take control of the situation.

The entry onto the scene of a particular character, an Indian holy man, will extrapolate the essence of the protagonists who will take the form of Renzo, Lucia, Don Abbondio, Don Rodrigo (who will make Teresa completely lose her mind) and the Nun of Monza (embodied by Mabilia). A theatrical journey between misunderstandings, unexpected events and jokes, in perfect Legnanesi style, enriched by the more modern vision of Mitia Del Brocco (Mabilia will light the torch of the Milan-Cortina Olympics), and where the love between Teresa and Giovanni will still find space.

In the first part, however, there will always be the courtyard, “because whoever comes to see the Legnanesi wants to see the courtyard – says Antonio Provasio – because that’s where we come from.” “The courtyard is our history, our culture and our tradition. It’s incredible and beautiful: when people see it, a synergy is created that collapses the fourth barrier between the audience and us artists. The audience is in the courtyard with us.”

Antonio, Enrico and Italo don’t just take on the role of the characters they play: they truly become “La Teresa”, “La Mabilia” and “Il Giovanni”; like a sort of strange spell, they are not on the stage, but in that courtyard which naturally makes them feel at home. A spell that only affects very good actors, and a wonderful sensation that only the theater is capable of giving.
