The secret of longevity speaks Italian: thanks to the Mediterranean diet

From 11 to 13 June, Naples hosts the Dmed, the Mediterranean diet exhibition: three days dedicated to the UNESCO heritage food model

A way of eating that the whole world envies us. UNESCO recognizes it, decades of scientific research confirm it. It’s called the Mediterranean diet, and it’s much more than a list of foods: it’s culture, it’s identity. The most effective for reducing the incidence of pathologies cardiovascular, type 2 diabetes, tumors and neurodegenerative disorders. This year, the event that celebrates this virtuous lifestyle has once again chosen Naples (after last year in Paestum) as its place of residence.

From 11 to 13 June 2026, the Maritime Station of the Campania capital will host the fifth edition of the Dmed, the Mediterranean diet exhibition. The setting is anything but random: overlooking the Gulf of Naples, at the heart of the Mediterranean routes, the designated place perfectly embodies the spirit of the event. Three days of meetings, comparisons and valorization of Italian excellence, organized by the Edamus Consortium, a non-profit organization that brings together producers and businesses from all over the peninsula.

The Mediterranean Diet Exhibition

A heritage of humanity

It is important to point out that the Mediterranean diet has been recognized as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO since November 2010, demonstrating a dietary model considered unique worldwide for promoting health, sustainability and quality of life. The theme of the 2026 edition, «Food, Culture and Wellbeing», reflects exactly this vision. Peace will also be at the center of the Show, the underlying theme of the entire event and a key value of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

The Mediterranean diet beyond the table

The Salone is not a gastronomic fair, or at least not in the traditional sense of the term. It is rather a connection platform between different worlds: institutions, businesses, universities, research centers, professionals and international operators. The goal is strengthen Made in Italy agri-food and open new paths to internationalisation. «We intend to continue along the path of valorising the Mediterranean diet as a cultural and nutritional model», explained Emilio Ferrara, president of the Edamus Consortium. «The theme of Peace represents the heart of our commitment».

Food, therefore, as a tool for dialogue. A vision that Italy, a nation with a Mediterranean character par excellence, knows how to embody better than anyone else.
