Found died at 14 in the former Reggiani in Bergamo: it is investigated between extreme gesture and accident. The area was already known for degradation and dangers
The girl found lifeless on the evening of Thursday 27 June was only 14 years old, in the disused area of the former Reggiani factory, in Bergamo. He had disappeared from Wednesday, the family members had launched an appeal on social media. It was his uncle, accompanied by a cousin, who found the body at the point where – according to what emerged – the young woman often went with friends.
An area that residents know well: over one hundred thousand square meters of disused buildings, theater in the last months of fires, occupations and accidents. Place frequented by writers, teenagers and groups looking for a space that does not exist elsewhere. It wasn’t the first time that the girl climbed on those roofs. This time, however, something went wrong.
The investigation and hypotheses
According to the first reconstructions, the young woman would have precipitated by a significant height, perhaps by one of the roofs of the former textile factory. Several bruises have been detected on the body compatible with a fall from above. Two main hypotheses are being examined by the Police Headquarters, coordinated by the prosecutor Raffaella Latrraca: a voluntary gesture or a tragic accident. The second, at least in these early hours, seems less likely. But the autopsy will clarify.
Family members triggered the alarm, who forced the railings to allow the entry of the ambulance and rescue vehicles. When the health workers and the police arrived, it was already too late. Shortly thereafter, the mayor Elena Carnevali and the security commissioner Giacomo Angeloni, visibly shaken, also arrived.
A forgotten area
The former Reggiani is not any place. Several times ended up in the spotlight for episodes of degradation and dangers, the area remains abandoned despite the reports. Only in 2024 there were more than 40 fires. Already in 2023 a 15 -year -old had fallen from a skylight, being seriously injured. Also on that occasion there was talk of absent security and lack of interventions.
Now, after yet another episode, the urgency of asking himself returns why such a large, central and dangerous area remains accessible to everyone, especially to the youngest.
Who was the girl
Originally from Ukraine, she lived just outside Bergamo with her grandmother and an uncle. It was well included in the school and social context, even if – according to what emerged – in recent months he regularly attended the former Reggiani together with a group of peers. An informal meeting place, far from the looks, where the boys also try their hand at dangerous tests, such as parkour and improvised climbing.
The next few days will be decisive to clarify what happened and if someone may have seen or heard something. The investigators are viewing the cameras of the area and collecting testimonies. Meanwhile, in the city there remains a sense of loss. And the feeling that, once again, the tragedy could have been avoided.
