A 3,500-page dossier shakes the defense of the Morettis, owners of the Constellacion club, which burned down on New Year’s Eve
While the collection of testimonies on the New Year’s Eve massacre in Crans-Montana continues and new details emerge, the collaboration between the Prosecutor’s Office of Sion and that of Rome takes shape. No “joint investigative team” for now, but a collaboration that has begun on the level of “reciprocity”.
The Italian mission
Yesterday the mission to the Valais of the Roman prosecutor Stefano Opilio ended, who also visited the Constellation for an inspection. “Our visit here is a sign of respect and attention towards all the victims,” Opilio told journalists. The prosecutor was able to view the Swiss investigative dossier which exceeds 3,500 pages. He then selected a thousand documents that the Rome Prosecutor’s Office asked to acquire. According to what was reported by the Swiss Radio and Television (RSI), in order to receive a copy without names, the Italian authorities will first have to obtain “the incidental decision” from the Valais public ministry. While for documents in which names and surnames appear, the consent of the people mentioned will also be necessary. On the other hand, Switzerland aims to obtain the documents of the investigative activity conducted in Italy, including the reports of the autopsies carried out on the victims and the results of the medical-legal consultations on the injured young people, but also the analyzes conducted on their cell phones, as well as the minutes of the testimonies.
«Jessica told me to film the show with pyrotechnic candles»
In addition to the Italian visit, there was great anticipation about the interrogation of a key witness: the young Constellation photographer, Rozerin Ozkaytan, who survived the massacre after being in a coma for weeks. When interviewed by investigators on Wednesday, she revealed: “Jessica told me to take photographs and a video of the show with the pyrotechnic candles.” Regarding the waitress with the helmet, on whom the Moretti couple blamed the fire, he said: “Jessica told Cyane to get on her colleague’s shoulders.” He then confirmed a detail that had already emerged previously from some stories: “After the fire, outside the club I saw Jessica crying, but I didn’t see her providing aid or giving directions to the injured who were leaving the Constellation.” The girl specified that she worked occasionally in the place since she was not an employee of the Moretti spouses. The next person to be heard by the Sion magistrates is the owner Jacques, with the interrogation scheduled for April 7th. Subsequently, five municipal administrators under investigation will be heard, including the mayor of Crans-Montana Nicolas Féraud, who will be questioned on April 13.
A video denies the Morettis’ statements about the security door
In recent days, a further detail has also emerged. Swiss investigators obtained and viewed a video showing one of the two security doors, the one on the ground floor, closed with a bolt a few seconds before the fire broke out. At exactly 1.26am, an employee opened the door letting in a man who then closed the exit with the tool. This would contradict what Jessica Moretti declared, given that she had explained that that door was never closed. However, this version did not already coincide with that of the club’s bouncer, Predrag Jankovic. He revealed that he had “heard Jessica talking to her collaborators, while they said that the doors had to remain closed”.
