up to 1,800 euros for accommodation, transport and tickets

Mind-boggling prices for an Olympic weekend in February 2026 (two people, accommodation, transport and ticket): Cortina is the most expensive with an average of more than 2 thousand euros, but Valtellina is no joke either with 1,700 euros, Milan is the least expensive with around 300 euros. Compared to the August survey, there is a slight drop in hotel and airbnb prices, but compared to a normal weekend in January prices have more than tripled in Cortina and more than fivefold in Valtellina. Train tickets increasing slightly

Staying in a three-star hotel or Airbnb during the 2026 Olympic Games can prove very expensive for a couple on a weekend getaway to the host locations. And comparing these rates with those of a normal weekend in January 2026, the difference is immediately obvious and is far from marginal. Compared to the survey that Altroconsumo carried out in August 2025, this one from November-December recorded a slight drop in prices, perhaps because there was no boom in bookings and hoteliers as well as homeowners had to slightly review the offer. However, accommodation in Cortina and Valtellina during the Olympic weekends remains very expensive: in Cortina more than 2,000 euros, in Valtellina almost 1,700 euros.

Accommodation prices: slightly decreasing but still very expensive in mountain resorts

The heaviest chapter for those who dream of attending the Games is that of accommodation. Altroconsumo surveyed accommodation prices for an Olympic weekend on different dates in February 2026 in the locations where the competitions take place, and compared it with a weekend in the previous month (16-18 January 2026). For hotels he chose three-star ones, for Airbnbs the first five offers with characteristics suited to his search.

It must be said that compared to the Altroconsumo survey of August 2025, prices dropped slightly and there was always room available: the crazy prices recorded in August may have discouraged many people from booking. A tip: if you have already booked and can cancel the reservation without costs, you should do your search again because you could find lower prices and save money.

  • In Cortina you spend on average just over 2,000 euros to sleep during an Olympic weekend and if it compares with a normal weekend in January, you pay 261% more.
  • In Valtellina, the average price is almost 1,700. Here there is the most significant increase: during the Games you pay 437% more than in January 2026.
  • A completely different order of magnitude for Val di Fiemme and Milan, around 500 euros for the former and just over 300 euros for the Lombard capital. In any case, compared to a weekend in the previous month you pay double.

If we compare the three-star hotels and Airbnbs in the Altroconsumo survey, here is what emerges.

  • In Cortina the airbnbs considered exceed 3,000 euros on both weekends of the Games and therefore cost more than three-star hotels.
  • In Valtellina, however, the hotels are the most expensive, and exceed 2000 euros for a weekendwhile Airbnbs cost just over half as much.
  • In Val di Fiemme for airbnbs you have to pay almost one and a half times the cost of a hotel. In Milan instead the scissor is less marked and Airbnbs are more convenient.

How much does it cost to sleep in the seats of the Olympic games?

Altroconsumo found the February prices of hotels and Airbnbs in the four Olympic venues for two people during the competition weekend and compared them with a normal weekend in January 2026. Below you will find the average price of accommodation for each location during the Games and the percentage of how much the cost has increased compared to a weekend in January. In blue the price in January 2026 and in red the price in the Olympic period in February 2026.

Transport: slightly more expensive

How much does it cost to reach the mountain locations where the Olympic competitions are held by train? For some destinationsas the investigation shows, it’s not a cheap trip e.g affects the overall expense. The good news, compared to January prices, is that there are no significant price increasesi for a return trip. However, the cost of the ticket remains important. To give some examples, the trip for two people from Milan to Cortina it costs 216 euros returnfrom Rome to Cortina 338 euros, from Turin 318 euros. The least expensive place to reach from Milan is the Tirano station in Valtellina whose return journey costs 50 euros.

Is there a way to save? Booking well in advance to be able to choose travel solutions with more competitive prices is a valid option. The average variation between the minimum and maximum price of train tickets during the Games is in fact 71%, but you can reach a maximum difference of 164%: this is the case of the return trip Venice-Milan for which we found a minimum price of 82 euros and a maximum of 217 euros.

Altroconsumo also analyzed the changes in train prices between the period of the Olympic Games in February 2026 compared to January 2026.

  • The increase in the cost of the ticket is between 4% (Valtellina) and 7% (Cortina and Val di Fiemme). Although the maximum ticket prices between the two periods for however, some routes show significant variationsthe: Venice-Valtellina (Tirano Station) +19%, Venice-Val di Fiemme (Ora Station) +27% and Florence-Val di Fiemme (Ora Station) +34%.
  • For Cortina instead they are minimum prices to increase, making it more difficult to take advantage of low prices during the Games: from Florence +30% and from Rome +27%.
  • Milan is going against the trendprices show an average decrease of 6%.

Tickets: from low-cost curling to luxury figure skating

The price of tickets represents another significant expense item which is also highly variable. The cheapest tickets are for ice hockey matches in Milanwhere it is possible to access with less than 100 euros for two people. Disciplines such as biathlon, curling and cross-country skiing also remain below this threshold.

Tickets for sports such as acrobatic skiing or short track are higher, exceeding 300 euros for two people, up to figure skating, where the price can reach 560 euros.

The choice of discipline and location has a direct impact on the overall budget. A weekend in Milan to watch ice hockey can cost a total of just under 700 euros for two people, accommodation included.

In Cortinacheering for alpine skiing champions can cost more than 2,800 euros, accommodation included.
