A new round of talks is expected to take place on Thursday. Meanwhile, Washington deploys new planes in the Middle East, while the Pasdaran conduct military exercises
The relationship between Washington and Tehran continues to oscillate between diplomacy and war. While waiting for the new round of talks which should be held on Thursday, Donald Trump is keeping the military option on the table.
“United States President Donald Trump’s first option is always diplomacy, but as he has demonstrated, he is willing to resort to lethal force from the United States military if necessary,” said White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt. «I have seen many sensationalist reports in recent days, which are simply false. And anyone who is speculating in the media, hiding behind an anonymous source, pretending to know what President Trump is thinking or a decision he will make regarding action against Iran, has no idea what he is talking about,” he added. Not only that. A few hours ago, the Times of Israel reported that “the US military has begun moving twelve F-22 stealth fighters to the Middle East after they were stationed at an air base in the United Kingdom in recent days.”
Meanwhile, an Israeli official told the publication Yedioth Ahronoth that an American attack would “become imminent.” In particular, according to CNN, the occupant of the White House is evaluating three distinct options. The first is to continue on the path of diplomacy and use military force exclusively as a threat: this is the path that, at least at the moment, the American envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, would most hope for. The second option is that of surgical bombings against nuclear and ballistic facilities: in this case, the objective would be to weaken the Iranian negotiating position, to force the ayatollahs to give in to Washington’s wishes (especially regarding the stop to uranium enrichment). Finally, the third option on the table is that of a broader attack aimed at decapitating the Khomeinist regime: this would be a scenario in which Trump could try to resort to a “Venezuelan” solution, even if it would not be easy to implement.
«We are ready to reach an agreement as soon as possible. We will do whatever it takes to make it happen. We will enter the negotiating room in Geneva with absolute honesty and good faith”, said Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi, before adding: “If an attack or aggression occurs against Iran, we will respond according to our defense plans. A US attack on Iran is a real risky bet.” Also today, Iranian state media also reported that Iranian Revolutionary Guards ground forces held military exercises on the country’s southern coast. In short, Washington and Tehran continue to oscillate between diplomacy and war scenarios. The next few hours could prove decisive: in one sense or another.
