Venice Film Festival, Jude Law in the role of Putin: “I don’t fear repercussions”

At Lido is Jude Law’s day. The British actor presented in competition at the 82nd Venice Film Festival The wizard of the Kremlinthe new film by Olivier Assayas based on Giuliano’s novel from Empoli. Interpreter of Vladimir Putin, Law told at the press conference the challenges of a role as complex as it is delicate: “I certainly did not think of possible repercussions, I entrusted myself to Olivier to tell without controversy a character who is part of a much bigger story”.

The film, written by the director together with Emmanuel Carrère, reconstructs between reality and fiction the rise to power of the Russian leader through the gaze of his spin Doctor Vadim Baraov, played by Paul Dano and inspired by Vladislav Surkov. Alicia Vikander also in the cast.

For Law, the greatest difficulty was to make the president’s enigma: «Putin’s public face does not reveal anything. I had to work on an inner acting, capable of suggesting emotions without ever showing them openly ».
