The fifth day of the Venice International Film Festival takes on the contours of the great policy and reflection on power: It’s time to The wizard of the KremlinOlivier Assayas’s new film With Jude Law, Alicia Vikander and Paul Dano. Based on Giuliano’s novel by Empoli and scripted together with Emmanuel Carrère, the film brings a complex and ambiguous portrait of contemporary Russia to the Lido, poised between reality and fiction.
On the red carpet Jude Law, who plays Vladimir Putin, dominates the scene With a measured elegance, a sign of a actor path that saw him cross genres and decades until he confronts himself today with one of the most enigmatic and controversial figures in recent history. Next to him, the cast colleagues contribute to returning to the red carpet a solemn, less sparkling tone and more loaded with symbolic tension, in line with the atmospheres of the film.
The day thus marks a turning point in the festival imagination: after the Gothic charm of FrankensteinVenice becomes the scene of a reflection on the representation of power, between author’s cinema and political topicality.
