«Verity» and two other books to read before they arrive on the screen

An author immobile in a bed, a ghostwriter called to take her place and a manuscript that perhaps should never have been found. After winning over millions of readers and fueling endless discussions about its ambiguous ending, Truth by Colleen Hoover is preparing to transfer its claustrophobic atmosphere to the cinema. But it is not the only case in which, in the coming months, reading may precede viewing. Between survival, desire and secrets, two more bestsellers are about to reach the big and small screen.

Truth by Colleen Hoover

The psychological thriller directed by Michael Showalter is expected in cinemas on October 2, 2026. At the center of the film will be Dakota Johnson in the role of Lowen Ashleigh, a writer in financial difficulty who is entrusted with a task as prestigious as it is disturbing. It will have to complete the literary series of Verity Crawford, a hugely successful author who was seriously injured following a mysterious accident.

Lowen thus moves to the Crawford house to consult notes and materials left by the writer, played by Anne Hathaway. Here she meets Jeremy, Verity’s husband, played by Josh Hartnett, and discovers an unfinished autobiography that contains disturbing revelations about the family. The document seems to transform a private tragedy into something much darker, but an essential question remains: do those pages tell the truth or are they just a novelist’s extreme experiment?

The Dog Stars – The stars after the end by Peter Heller

«Verity» and two other books to read before they arrive on the screen

Before Truthwill arrive in cinemas on August 28th The Dog Starsdirected by Ridley Scott and based on the post-apocalyptic novel by Peter Heller. The story takes place after an influenza pandemic that has almost entirely wiped out humanity. Hig lives in an abandoned airport with his dog and Bangley, an armed and suspicious ex-marine. Their fragile daily life is interrupted by a radio transmission that could indicate the presence of other survivors.

Played by Jacob Elordi, alongside Josh Brolin and Margaret Qualley, Hig does not have the granitic heroism of many protagonists of the genre. He is a wounded man who continues to fly, fish and observe the landscape because beauty represents the last possible form of resistance. Heller thus constructs a lyrical and melancholic survival novel, in which the end of the world becomes a reflection on mourning, loneliness and the almost irrational need to still search for someone.

The Love Hypothesis. The theorem of love by Ali Hazelwood

From danger to romantic comedy, will debut on Prime Video on September 23rd The Love Hypothesisadaptation of Ali Hazelwood’s bestseller starring Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman. Olive Smith is a doctoral student who believes she has no interest in romantic relationships. To persuade her best friend that she has overcome an old infatuation, she impulsively kisses Adam Carlsen, a brilliant and feared young professor, involving him in a facade relationship.

Directed by Claire Scanlon, the film promises to maintain the contrast between Olive’s irony and Adam’s apparent impenetrability. It will also be one of the first major cinematic tests for that new generation of romances that have grown through digital word of mouth, fan communities and BookTok.
