Born in Militello, in the province of Catania, on June 7, 1936, Giuseppe Baudo – for everyone simply “Pippo” – was much more than a presenter: he was an inventor of format, a tireless scout talent, a professional capable of transforming any show into event.
In 60 years of career, almost entirely lived in Rai, with a single parenthesis in Mediaset, Baudo conducted the programs that made the history of Italian TV. There is practically no character of the show who has not crossed his way: from comedians like Beppe Grillo and Tullio Solenghi, to showgirl and dancers like Heather Parisi and Lorella Cuccarini.
With his unmistakable style, he invented a way of doing television that many then replied or tried to imitate. The reassuring face of the great shows, the narrative voice of the national costume, the man who accompanied the growth of the town on the small screen: this was Pippo Baudo.
