Economy

We are all hostages of Maurizio Landini

The secretary of the CGIL is thinking about the autumn strike campaign. For better contracts and the rights of those who work? No, the causes he espouses are foreign conflicts, for which he obviously blames the Italian government. The truth is that, under pressure from smaller groups and with membership numbers dwindling, his plan to climb to the top of the left is at risk.

There health t-shirt it’s a habit he’s carried with him since he was an apprentice welder. But now it’s not enough anymore. A glowing autumn looms. The ribald competing acronyms set fire. The dying left continues to gasp. AND Maurizio Landini decides to wear the keffiyeh. Are wages languishing? Contracts wait? Details. First peace, then bread. Possibly. Wild mobilizations and general strikes against “the genocide of the Israeli government”, therefore. The leader of the CGIL it seems unstoppable. Yet another mega demonstration for Palestine is scheduled for October 23, 2025. The working class no longer leads to paradise. We need bold young men and proud immigrants, idealistic minds and spirited people. Because it’s not just the squares that are full, but also the factories. Despite the triumphalism, the latest memberships seem scarce. Friday, of course, was tempting. But losing a day’s wages to support the journey of the Flotilla did not sufficiently motivate the members.
Corso Italia calls, does Gaza respond? Unlikely. The CGIL is the only European union that wants to block everything due to the conflict in the Middle East. The only link between workers and conflict would be the supposed “war economy” that starves the people: a weak assumption, in fact. While the Mullah Maurice he covers his face, so the mask falls off. Nothing but salaries and pickets. Frustrating stuff. Trite liturgies. Do you want to start with a planetary conflict? Yet another opportunity, among other things, to accuse the government of the most inhuman atrocities. Israel prepares the naval blockade and Italy fiddles? Don’t you even send a tricolor frigate to the waters of Gaza? It’s just the latest pretext, of course.

Referendum flop and revenge in the streets

The unfortunate referendum on Jobs Act and citizenship It seems to have been enlightening. «Our goal is to reach a quorum: it means mobilizing at least 25 million voters» explained Landini last May. A month later, however, 14 million people went to vote: just thirty percent of citizens. The secretary, in any case, does not back down: “These votes will be a new beginning.” So here we are. The CGIL party tries the feat again: to stir up feelings and overthrow the government. And behind the red piper, as always, the entire left queues. This time, in the name of the Palestinian people. Allah Akbar.
Poor Elly Schleinpiddina secretary in doll. And poor Giuseppe Contefresh from another electoral blunder, this time in Calabria. They pretend to be in agreement, but it’s every man for himself. They hope to challenge Giorgia Meloni in the next elections. They devise unsuccessful strategies. Meanwhile, Mullah Maurizio organizes protests and marches against Palazzo Chigi, forcing the thugs of the campo largo to chase each other. «A single man in command» would remark Mario Ferretti, in a possible political commentary. Him: the breakaway sprinter. And the others: the Sunday long distance runners.

Clashes, accusations and personal battles

Fight hard and without fear, then. But on October 3rd they were also in the square hooded, Maranza and loose dogs. Clashes with the police, anti-Semitic slogans, anthems to Hamas. Landini distances himself from “violent and idiots”. The enormities hurled at the executive, however, do not help. Even the meek Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi he explains: «It is political war against the government. The CGIL foments social revolt.” Already announced by the secretary himself in November 2024, among other things. At Palazzo Chigi they are convinced: it is one personal battlemore than unitary. The prime minister, Giorgia Melonisays: «Many seek opposition out of interest». And the leader of the League, Matteo Salvinipredicts: «Prepare for his arrival in Parliament».
In his boastful autobiography, Another storyLandini writes: «I don’t need to go into politics». In fact, he is already politics. Prophetic title, however. He certainly wouldn’t be satisfied with a seat in Parliament, as happened to his predecessors enlisted by the Democratic Party: Sergio Cofferati, Guglielmo Epifani or Susanna Camusso. He was reappointed in March 2023, for four years. His mandate will expire a few months before the elections, therefore. Perfect timing. Schlein is eager to challenge Meloni. Like Conte, after all. She pushes him: «I am stubbornly unitary». He avoids her: “We are not allies.” The only convergence remains on the toning initiatives of the CGIL. Between the two litigants, will the furious Landini prevail?

Race to the left and war between acronyms

You have to be honest, though. This time it’s not just unbridled personal ambitions that count. This very hot autumn also serves to try to chase the grim grassroots unions. Those who compete with the CGIL for squares and members. THE Cobasvery active in logistics, called the very successful pro-PAL general strike on 22 September, three days after a disastrous and similar attempt by Landini. This would have been precisely the reason that pushed him to take action, proclaiming another mobilization for Gaza without the necessary ten days’ notice. So much so that it is considered illegitimate by the appropriate authority Guarantee fee. THE’USBInstead, one protest after another takes place in transport: trains, buses, airports. Those who continue to paralyze Italy. Possibly on Friday. The Prime Minister, in fact, is maramaldistic: «Long weekend and revolution don’t go well together».
In short, it’s urgent overtaking on the left. The undershirt peeking out from the shirt is no longer enough. Landini needs the keffiyeh. To sail together with the Flotilla, ignored practically everywhere. In Spain, which boasts the most left-wing government on the continent, there were only isolated spontaneous demonstrations. No union, elsewhere, decided to stop a country to support the boats that wanted to break the Israeli naval blockade. Even Matteo Renzinow a solid ally of Elly, quips: «In ten days there were two strikes on the Flotilla. Sooner or later, I hope that they will also be organized on salaries, pensions, bills and waiting lists in healthcare.” Already. It’s not like they skimp on the rest, however. 1,603 were proclaimed last year alone: 981 revoked, 622 not. Fifty-one mobilizations per month: a little more than one and a half per day. Second Conflavorothey made us lose at least five billion. And in 2025 the balance will be even worse.

Between records and uncomfortable hugs

Undisputed records. From Guinness World Records. Other than those little sluts Elly and Giuseppi. Mullah Maurizio will take care of it. Giorgia, on the other hand, is a public danger. Democracy is at risk. Ah, how idyllic were the times when the grim man was in love and in agreement with the government. The severe gaze overflowed with admiration. Right with Count there was the most passionate embrace, during a conference in Lecce in September 2019. Even then they discussed everything. And they cooed over everything: “I totally agree”, “I really agree”, “I appreciate it”, “I agree”. There was even agreement on the elusive and vague cut to the tax wedge, the one later introduced by Dragons and which now instead he abhors: we need it assetsotherwise. Yes, even the former president of the ECB had earned his affectionate embrace. Those were amazing times: Italy was running fast, the workers were wasting their money, the prime ministers got everything right. Then, suddenly, darkness falls. He arrives at Palazzo Chigi Melons. After the Josephite government and that of the best, Italy transformed into a bad place: accidents at work, starvation wages, freedom at risk, concertation banned, inadequate maneuver, obtuse militarism, deleterious autonomy, wild authoritarianism. «The CGIL is more interested in defending the left than the workers» says Meloni. «In the ten years in which the left was in government it called six strikes. In these three he has already proclaimed four.” And the best is yet to come.

The members change their face

The squares are not only used to confront the centre-right, but also to keep alive the presumed myth of invincibility. According to the antagonist acronym Cglin the last year more than 50 thousand workers have instead abandoned the Landinian “parent company”. In 2024, according to self-certified official data, the number of members seemed stable: just over five million. With one fundamental detail, however: the number of pensioners is decreasing and growing young people and immigrants. It is no coincidence that they share the most in the suffering of the Palestinian people. In universities this continues to dominateUduwhich defines itself as “the main Italian student union”. In short, they remain the most voted in the universities. Okkupations, propaganda, collectives. Every year, as stated in the budgets, the CGIL grants the organization both its offices and a generous contribution of 130 thousand euros. A commonality that has pushed many resolute UDU youngsters to even get union membership: there were almost ten thousand of them last year. And then they increase foreign workersprecisely. Those who come from non-European countries now represent 14 percent of members. They are mostly Islamic.
It is also for them that Landini decided to wear the keffiyeh. With one eye on the Cigiellina crew in turmoil. And the other to the sinking of the progressive flotilla.
