Work and citizenship. On this we vote on 8 and 9 June, saying yes or not to five abrogative referendums, promoted by unions (CGIL in the first place) and civic movements. The referendum round coincides with the second round of the administrative elections in various municipalities and regions
Referendum 2025: the five referendum questions of 8 and 9 June
There are five referendum questions for the June appointment. Four concern the issues related to work and the fifth instead the right of citizenship of foreigners Extra European Union
1. Reintegration in case of illegitimate dismissal
The first question aims to restore the protection for workers fired without just cause, abolished by the Jobs Act in 2015. In the event of a positive outcome, the judge could order the reinstatement in the workplace, not only economic compensation.

The second referendum wants to eliminate the maximum roof of economic compensation for layoffs without just cause in companies with less than fifteen employees, returning to the judge full discretion in the quantification of the damage.
3. Fixed contracts
The third question aims to cancel the rules introduced in recent years which facilitate the use of fixed -term contracts.
4. Work safety in contracts
The fourth referendum aims to increase the responsibility of contracting companies in the event of accidents at work, repealing rules considered by insufficient promoters to guarantee safety during the contracted works.
5. Citizenship to non -EU foreigners
The fifth question concerns citizenship. It is proposed to reduce the minimum period of legal residence in Italy from ten to five years necessary to request it, making the legislation more inclusive for foreign citizens permanently resident.
When and how you vote in June 2025 for the repeal referendums and how it works for off -site
The polls will be open Sunday 8 June from 7 to 23 and Monday 9 June from 7 to 15. In order for the result of the referendum to be valid, it is necessary that the quorum is reached: at least 50% must vote for one of the entitled. The voters registered in AIRE (Italian registry residing abroad) will receive the package for the vote by correspondence, according to the usual procedure.
There is a novelty. For the first time, even students and workers with temporary domicile in provinces other than that of residence will be able to vote out of office. Those who want to do it must send the request to the Municipality of temporary domicile by 4 May, attaching a copy of the electoral card, an identity document and a certification attesting to the condition of fuorized. The municipalities then have time until June 3 to postpone the admission document to the vote, necessary to vote on 8 and 9 June.
