The Lunies protagonists of the film, in truth, have been no longer a family for some time. We discover it slowly, while the five chapters develop.
Lissy parents (Corinna Harfouch) and Gerd (Hans-Uwe Bauer), who live in a town in the north of Germany, are in a critical phase. He, suffering from dementia, escapes the control of her, who begins to show signs of physical and emotional fragility.
And then there is Tom (Lars Eidinger), the eldest son, on which the room stops more. He is conductor in Berlin and is working on an original song for orchestra and choir written by his friend Bernard (Robert Gwisdek) which, constantly irritated and depressed, interferes continuously during the tests. The title of the work? Sterbenor “dying”, which is also the original title of the film.

The director’s statements
Mathias Glasner started writing the film in a bar a few steps from home when once, watching outside the window, he saw the ghosts of his parents, who died shortly before, standing in the traffic.
“I finally want to approach themwhich I have never managed to do during their life. And the only way to get closer to something or someone is to make it a movie. So I start writing, in the sound of coffee machines, in this desolate place. I write here for a few hours a day for a few weeks to follow, “Glasner said in the notes of the film. «It is an experiment: is it possible to make a film as an approach to yourself, against every dramaturgical rule? A film that does not want to be a “product” or a “content”? A film that does not know himself, that consists of pure atmospherewho remains in the approximate? A film that does not want to demonstrate anything, does not even claim to affirm anything. Could someone interest the ending? ».
