where nature is part of the concert

The Festival returns for a 31st edition full of music, international artists, inclusion and breathtaking landscapes

From 24 August to 3 October the most loved altitude festival in Trentino returns, “The Sounds of the Dolomites”an event capable of harmoniously combining the splendid Dolomite peaks with the elegance and spirituality of music.

Among woods, alpine refuges and breathtaking views you can attend concerts, almost all of which are free (https://www.isuonidelledolomiti.it/). The silence of the mountains will be accompanied by the music produced by pianos, cellos, brass instruments and accordions.

The opening of the festival, in the enchanting setting of the Brenta Dolomites, will be entrusted to the project “Strings, Strings, In-canto”, which he will see perform together The Cellists of La Scala, with a repertoire ranging from Vivaldi to Jimi Hendrix and the SOSAT Choir which, on the occasion of its centenary, will add its folkloristic heritage of Alpine songs and music.

Dozens of world-famous artists will contribute to giving (and treating themselves to) a unique experience, where in addition to the beauty of the landscapes and the entire territory, maximum attention is paid to respect for the environment, accessibility and inclusion. Some concerts have been designed to also be accessible to people with motor and hearing disabilities. For the latter, for example, they will be provided with “Haptic vest”: special vests capable of converting sounds into body vibrationsso that their participation can be as experienced as possible.

Other unmissable events are the suggestive one Sunrise of the Dolomiteswhere the young female brass ensemble Belles of the Rockieswill embrace the sunrise on the famous “Terrace of the Dolomites”, and the different experiences of Trekking of Sounds.

Routes, walks and concerts at altitude, like the one offered by the countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński, come on Baba Yagafive musicians inspired by Slavic mythology who blend Balkan melodies and gypsy jazz, or from the encounter between the violin of Gilles Apap and the cello of Mario Brunello (artistic director of the festival).

Brunello himself states: “The Sounds of the Dolomites are faithful to a very simple idea: music in the mountains is listened to and experienced in a different way. There is no traditional stage, there is no distance between artists and the public. We walk together, on the same path and arrive in places where nature is part of the concert. Music becomes a tool to bring people closer to the mountain and its balance.”

This year there will also be a highly anticipated novelty: the “Vertical Music”scheduled from September 29th to October 1st in Val di Fassa. An intimate dialogue between two equally intense worlds: music and climbing.

Alexander Hubera world-famous mountaineer is discovered in his role as an excellent pianist and together with his colleague (climber and pianist) Chiara Schmidt will give life to the music of Philipp Glass in a four-hand concertrecounting the close relationship between music and climbing. Both require absolute concentration and perfect balance between body, mind and the space that hosts them.

Between baroque and contemporary virtuosity, depth of interpretation, intertwining of musical languages, different cultures and traditions, for more than a month, the Dolomites will be transformed into a true open-air theatre. And not just for the amazing view.
