The payments of the May 2026 single allowance are approaching. Here are the dates of INPS accreditations, who risks delays and the deadline not to be missed to recover the arrears.
May is one of the most delicate months for families who receive the universal single allowance. On the one hand there is the wait for INPS credits, on the other a deadline that can concretely change the amount received each month. Because those who do not update the ISEE within the deadline risk losing hundreds of euros, receiving only the minimum amount foreseen by the system.
And it is precisely in recent weeks that thousands of families are checking current accounts, the INPS portal and Caf to understand when the May 2026 payments will arrive and above all whether there is still time to recover any arrears.
The single universal allowance, which has now become the main economic support for families with dependent children, continues to function through a mechanism that links the amount to the updated ISEE. No family is excluded from the measure, but without DSU the contribution is automatically reduced to a minimum.
Single allowance May 2026: payment dates
Also for May 2026, payments will follow the now consolidated calendar adopted by INPS in recent months. Families who already regularly receive the Single Allowance and who have not changed the composition of their family unit or ISEE situation should receive the credit between Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st May.
The amounts calculated on the basis of family income, number of children, age and the possible presence of minors with disabilities will then arrive in the current account indicated to INPS.
However, the situation is different for those who have just submitted a new DSU or for families awaiting the first payment. In these cases, INPS must first process the updated data and verify the new economic situation of the unit. For this reason, the accreditations may be delayed by a few days, although they are expected by the end of the month.
The decisive deadline to recover the arrears
The real issue of these weeks, however, does not just concern the payment dates. What worries many families above all is the deadline of 30 June 2026, the deadline for submitting the updated DSU and recovering the arrears from the previous months.
Anyone who does not present an updated ISEE is automatically placed in the highest income bracket. This means receiving only the minimum amount foreseen for the Single Allowance, which today corresponds to 58.30 euros for each dependent minor child.
A situation that often does not depend on a choice, but simply on forgetfulness, delays or outdated documentation. And this is where the possibility of recovering arrears comes into play: by submitting the DSU by 30 June, in fact, INPS will recalculate the amounts due from the beginning of the year and will also pay the differences not received in the previous months.
For many families these are figures that can become important, especially in the presence of multiple children or low ISEE.
Because the ISEE changes the amount of the check
The single allowance is defined as “universal” because it is available to all families with children, regardless of income. But this does not mean that everyone receives the same amount.
In fact, the amount varies based on the ISEE of the family unit. The lower the income, the higher the sum recognized by INPS. On the contrary, those who do not present the DSU are automatically considered in the highest economic bracket and therefore receive only the expected minimum.
This is precisely the reason why every year millions of families must update their economic situation through the Single Substitute Declaration.
How to present the DSU to update the ISEE
The procedure can be carried out directly online through the single ISEE portal available on the INPS website. In the case of the Single Allowance, since the entire family unit is involved, all adult members must authorize the use of their data.
Those who prefer to avoid errors or digital procedures can still contact a Caf, who will compile and send the necessary documentation.
Once the procedure has been completed, INPS will process the new ISEE and automatically update the amount of the single allowance, possibly also including any arrears due.
Because the single allowance remains central for millions of families
In the midst of an economic phase still marked by inflation, high bills and increases in daily expenses, the Single Allowance continues to represent one of the most important aids for Italian families.
And it is precisely for this reason that the payment dates and deadlines linked to the ISEE generate a wave of online searches, doubts and requests for clarification every month. Because behind those transfers there is not only a state contribution, but a fundamental part of the economic balance of millions of parents.
