Receipt lottery: how to participate and why it is easier to win today. The 25,000 euro draw will be held on June 25th

Registrations have dropped by 80% compared to the 2021 launch, but the prize pool remains unchanged: rules, tickets, weekly and monthly prizes and what to do if the winning notification arrives

The next appointment with the receipt lottery is Thursday 25 June. There will be the next draw to win 25 thousand euros. This tool has existed since 2021, launched by the government to encourage electronic payments and fight tax evasion. Sixty-five draws in one year and total prizes of 43.8 million euros (over 36 million to consumers and over 7 to merchants). But it is increasingly less participated. According to Sogei’s 2025 budget, there was an 80% drop in membership. So? So there are more chances to win.

The numbers for 2025: fewer participants, but still high prize money

Sogei’s balance sheet tells us that the amount of premiums remained stable compared to previous years, but after the boom of the first few months, participation collapsed. In 2025, around 25 million receipts participated, the same data as in 2024, but less than a fifth compared to the year the initiative was launched. With fewer virtual tickets in circulation, your chances of being drawn in one of the 65 annual draws are growing every year. The receipt lottery costs the state coffers around 50 million euros per year, a good part of which ends up in prize money anyway.

How the receipt lottery works: who can participate and how to obtain tickets

The rules are always the same, from the first draw in February 2021. Adult citizens resident in Italy who make purchases via electronic payments (credit and debit cards, ATMs, prepaid cards, payment apps) at merchants participating in the “Italia Cashless” program. Purchases paid in cash are excluded; made online or via e-commerce; linked to business, art or profession activities and receipts of an amount less than one euro.
To participate you must generate your own lottery code for free on the Lottery Portal, entering your tax code, and show it to the merchant when you pay, asking that it be combined with the electronic receipt. PFor every euro you spend you get a ticket. An expense of 10 euros therefore generates 10 tickets, one of 30 euros generates 30. The maximum is 1000 tickets, for receipts of an amount equal to or greater than one thousand euros.

Receipt lottery: pweekly, monthly rows and the 5 million annual jackpot

There are several times when prizes are distributed. There is a weekly draw: every Thursday 15 prizes of 25 thousand euros and 15 prizes of 5 thousand euros are awarded to the merchants who have issued the winning receipt, relating to purchases recorded from the previous Monday to Sunday. Then there is the monthly draw: every second Thursday of the month there are ten prizes of 100 thousand euros up for grabs for buyers and ten of 20 thousand euros for traders. And then there is the annual draw: 5 million euros for the winner and 1 million for the merchant linked to the winning receipt. The next dates to mark in the diary are the weekly draw on Thursday 25 June (for receipts issued between 15 and 21 June) and the monthly draw on 9 July.
