Carrarino wins in three sets after yet another marathon, tomorrow he has the chance to win a tournament again after four years
An all-Italian battle and at the end Lorenzo Musetti reaches the final of the Lyon tournament beating in the blue derby Flavio Cobolli. The Carrarino came back from a set down by canceling four match balls against the Roman tennis player. Musetti will face Taylor Fritz in the final and after the marathon victory with Van Assche (three and a half hours on the pitch where he left at one in the morning) he demonstrated that he had regained great physical condition and above all perfect mental management of the match. In addition to his talent, the patience and coolness that Lorenzo showed in the decisive moments of the match with Cobolli were decisive.
What a balance
Already from the first set it was clear that it would be a point-to-point match, Cobolli won the first set 6-4 after an interminable game that lasted eleven minutes and with twenty points played. In the second Cobolli has a noticeable decline, while Musetti plays well and showed his best shots by breaking the Roman’s serve twice to close 6-2. In the third set the serve continues until 5-5, Cobolli has four match balls, but Musetti cancels them all and holds serve, then breaks it in the twelfth game in Cobolli, closing 7-5. For Musetti it will be the tenth ATP final in his career, the first since Hong Kong 2026. The Tuscan will be chasing a title from 23 October 2022, when he won in Naples: tomorrow he will have the opportunity to break a four-year fast. With Fritz he won four of his last five matches. For Cobolli a bad stop in view of the ATP Finals in Turin but Flavio without considering Sinner will maintain fourth place in the Ranking.
