Carrarino wins in two sets, the last success in Naples in 2022. “It’s a dream and I don’t want to wake up”
Lorenzo Musetti returns to win an ATP tournament away from four years. The tennis player from Carrara won the ATP 250 final in Lyon beating Taylor Fritz in two sets. The last victory was in Naples in 2022, exactly 1463 days after Musetti he returns to win and it is the ninth success of an Italian tennis player in 2026. Musetti joins Sinner who won Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid, Rome and Wimbledon, Cobolli who triumphed in Acapulco and Darderi who won in Santiago. Musetti confirmed the positive tradition with Fritz by winning for the fifth time out of six matches played: variations, always precise one-handed backhands and poisonous trajectories put Fritz in difficulty while LOrenzo plays with ease, immediately breaks his opponent’s serve and goes to 2-0 and then demonstrates his superiority with ten consecutive points and so the first set flies by in 33 minutes (6-3). Musetti’s superiority continues in the second set who breaks Fritz’s serve to make it 3-1 and then always maintains serve and closes 6-4.
Lorenzo’s happiness
“It’s a dream and I don’t want to wake up“, says a very emotional Musetti at the end of the match. “I didn’t expect it, it was a roller coaster journey”, already because Lorenzo, after the marathon with Van Assche with the match ending at 1am, canceled four match balls in the semi-final against Cobolli in the all-Italian derby. Yet he showed up at the final as if he hadn’t struggled.”I am really proud of this victory. I also have to thank my team who allowed me to always recover after the great matches of the last few days.”
