When Design meets matter: the new Raffles Milano Material Library inaugurated with the strategic support of Siroplast in

A new point of reference for design culture is born in Milan: the Material Library of the Raffles Milan university institute officially opens its doors. Conceived from an idea by architect Luigi Ciuffreda, this innovative space is proposed as a permanent collaborative hub, designed to tangibly connect students, industry professionals and manufacturing companies around the study and application of materials.

An Educational Project that Becomes an Industrial Reality

The peculiarity of this Material Library lies in its genesis strongly oriented towards field research. The entire architecture of the interior furnishings is the result of a virtuous academic path: the structures and exhibition modules were entirely designed by the students of the Product Design course at Raffles Milano, guided by the experience of the teacher and architect Luigi Baroli.

However, the academic idea could not have translated into physical reality without a visionary industrial partner. Siroplast’s indispensable contribution made it possible to transform the students’ drawings into concrete, functional and modular furnishing elements. The company embraced the initiative right from the start, taking care of the engineering, the entire production and the final installation of the furnishings that today define and structure the space.

The Value of Shared Research

The Materioteca is not a simple static archive, but a living laboratory. Thanks to the structures created by Siroplast in, the space is now ready to welcome, catalog and make physically accessible the samples and material innovations provided by the manufacturers.

This project represents an excellent example of technology transfer and a short knowledge chain, demonstrating how timely dialogue between universities and the manufacturing industry can generate concrete tools to support research, sustainable innovation and the development of tomorrow’s designers.
