Road claims. Now the friendly observation is also compiled in digital format. But the old paper CID does not retire
From 1 July the possibility of filling out the friendly observation, in the event of a road accident, also in digital format was introduced. However, for those who prefer paper and pen, the possibility of using the old paper module remains valid.
How many of us, at least once in their lives, found themselves faced with the sadly known CID: the friendly observation form to fill in in the event of a road accident between multiple vehicles? Many, certainly.
Characterized by the two columns, one blue and a yellow to visually distinguish the counterparties involved, has often created difficulties for motorists. Complications due to both the complexity of the module, and to the typical emotional state of unpleasant situations.
And what about the famous box where to draw the dynamics of the accident? A real challenge for those who are not great familiar with the drawing. Although it certainly does not need to be the new Leonardo da Vinci to represent the vehicles involved.
To simplify these situations and meet motorists, technology today gives a hand. IVASS, the Institute for Supervisory Supervisory, with Regulation no. 56 of 25 March 2025, provided for the obligation for all insurance companies to make digital tools available to customers – such as apps or dedicated sections on Internet sites – to fill in the friendly find form online.
What changes compared to the past
More than a change, it is correct to speak of integration. IVASS clarified that the new digital mode does not replace the paper mode, but is accompanied by it. Motorists will be able to choose whether to use the traditional or digital form, also based on the availability of the paper at the time of the accident.
The abolition of the paper, in fact, would have created difficulty above all to elderly or not people who are accustomed to technology. For this reason, at least for now, the two ways will coexist, leaving full freedom of choice.
Fill out the CAI form digitally and possible errors
The individual insurance companies will have to make new digital solutions available. Through special apps or dedicated sections on websites, accessible via SPID or electronic identity card (CIE), it will be possible to fill in the form directly online.
And in case of errors? No problem. Just as it can happen with the paper form, inaccuracies can also occur in digital compilation. The legislation provides that, in the event of incompatibility between what is declared and the actual damage found, or in the presence of substantial errors, the friendly observation can be disabled even if signed by all the parties involved.
In addition, the Cassation has already expressed itself on the subject, clarifying that any errors in filling in the form do not preclude the right to compensation. However, if possible, it is necessary to provide tests in support of the real dynamic of the accident.
In short, whether you choose paper and pen or the digital way, the advice always remains the same: paying the utmost attention to the guide to avoid accidents.
