Waiting for the most commented red carpet in the fashion world, let’s find out what this year’s theme will be, who will calm the Met staircase and those who, on the other hand, will remain out of the list of guests.
Countdown to one of the most anticipated red carpet of the year, the Met Gala 2025. Monday 5 May, at 5 pm (now in New York, it will be 11pm for us), the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York will spread the red carpet on the imposing staircase to welcome 400 among the most illustrious characters of fashion, show, sport and finance.
An imposing and highly anticipated event, as much as the Night of the Oscars, especially for curiosity about what will be the guests’ looks.
The story of the event
The Met Gala (or Met Ball) was born in 1946 with the aim of celebrating fashion and above all to raise funds intended for the costume institute, department of the Metropolitan Museum that does not receive state grants, therefore this event is fundamental to self -financial.
Starting cost of the ticket is 75 thousand dollars, and in 2024, according to the New York Times26 million dollars were collected.
The theme of this year
The evening of Monday 5 May (as traditional on the first Monday of May) is the inaugural event of the costume institute exhibition which this year will be dedicated to male elegance and in particular to the Culture Dandy Africanican.
“Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” is the name of the exhibition, curated by Andrew Bolton and Professor Monica Miller, who will pay homage to African American fashion and more generally to male elegance, a very trendy topic in recent seasons.
The theme also takes inspiration from the publication of Professor Monica L. Miller, professor of African Studies at the Barnard College of Columbia University, entitled Slave to Fashion: Black dandyism and the style of black diasoric identity.
The collaborations already announced
Fashion companies have lavished to interpret the creative expression of this theme. For example, Burberry has announced the collaboration with the Superstylist Law Roach, who with Four hands with Daniel Lee, creative director of the Maison, will take care of translating and developing the topic in the Burberry style as well as the preparation of the table during the inaugural evening.
In line with the theme of the exhibition, the Dress Code imposed by the historic director Anna Wintour is Tailored for You, a celebration of male tailoring.
The guests and organizers of the event
The list of guests is always top secret, surely there will be actors, sportsmen, singers, stylists and fashion icons. What is certain is that characters such as Donald Trump and his wife Melanie will be absent, made official by Wintour himself during an appearance on American TV in 2017, as well as Kim Kardashian, another celebrity not appreciated at the moment.
However, we certainly know the names of the organizers of the event. To support the artistic director Anna Wintour there will be the actor Colman Domingo, the Formula 1 Lewis Hamilton pilot, the rapper at $ ap Rocky (the presence of the evening of his wife Rihanna is assumed) and the singer, now also designers, Pharrell Williams.
The former NBA champion Lebron James played the role of honorary co-president.
