All political knots and divisions between Democrats and Republicans

The blocking of non -essential federal activities took place on Wednesday. Republicans and dem liability are regretted. But it is the donkey that risk more from a political point of view

Shutdown has returned to the United States: the blocking of federal activities considered not essential. Everything was triggered at midnight on October 1: at the end of the tax year 2025. By that date, the Republican and democratic parliamentarians should have approved the financing of the federal government: a goal that was not however achieved. In recent days, the two parties had discussed the possibility of a buffer measure that would unlock the financing to the government until November: the idea was in fact to take time, to negotiate a long -term agreement in the meantime. However, the negotiations have jumped. The Democrats asked that the extent of Obamacare’s subsidies for health policies were included in the tampon extent, which should expire on December 31st. The Republicans instead replied that the theme should have been addressed between November and December. The last time he had occurred a shutdown had been between 2018 and 2019: at the time, he lasted 36 days and took place during the Christmas holidays.

The political clash and the risks

Like that it is republicans and democrats are mutually attributing the responsibility for closing. It must be said that, from a political point of view, a shutdown always proves to be rather risky. Furthermore, given that healthcare represents a sensitive theme, it could be believed that the greatest danger annoys on Donald Trump and the Republican Party. However, be careful. First of all, Tuesday, the American president has, at least in part, politically covered, reaching an agreement with Pfizer: an agreement, on the basis of which the company has undertaken to lower the cost of its pharmaceutical products. Secondly, it is increasingly likely that Trump wants to leverage the Shutdown to achieve one of his historical objectives: significantly reduce the number of public employees. Axios reported last night that, according to the director of the Office of Management and Budget Russell Vought, the American administration will begin to fire federal employees “between a day or two”. JD Vance himself, always yesterday, did not exclude the Siluraments, if the Shutdown should last for a long time.

Quiet Trump, Democrats divided

In short, Trump, at least for now, does not seem much worried about the closure. The picture appears very different for the Democrats. The editorial board of the Washington Post has argued that progressive parliamentarians are pushing the donkey towards a “disastrous direction”. The real knot is that the Democratic Party appears anything but compact within it. The DEM deputy, Jared Golden, has directly pointed his finger at the “extreme left”, while, according to Axios, some centrist democratic senators are also irritated with the progressive wing of their party. Add to this that historically the left dem is not accustomed to compromises: which is why, even if a theoretical compromise with the Republicans should be achieved, that world could decide to send everything to the air.

Chuck Schumer’s political drama

In this context, the political drama of the leader Dem in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, is finally being consumed. Behind the scenes, he would have preferred to avoid shutdown, placing a buffer measure that allowed to continue the negotiations with the Gop. However, on a public level, it was forced to embrace a barricadiera line, given that, in March, the left had accused him of excessive surrender against the Trump administration. The situation for him is worsening is the fact that he risks finding himself contested by the New York seating from the Ultra-ProGressist Dem deputy, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
