After the referendum defeat, the center-right must start again from the “three S’s” of politics: money, security and health, the real priorities to recover consensus and trust in the country
Once upon a time, editors taught novice reporters the three S rule. A successful article, which allowed you to sell more copies, had to talk about Sex, Money and Blood. Not much has changed since then, in fact the stories that tell of crimes, money and even itchy relationships are the most followed.
If I dust off the three S’s of printed paper it is not to take a journey around journalism, but to talk about politics. In fact, the rule also applies to those in government, with a variation of themes. After money, which represents the central issue, come safety and health. I believe that in any family, in the evening, at the table or sitting in the living room, we talk about this. Maybe there will be some (legitimate) expletives against us Gravina And Gattusoafter Italy was once again left out of the football World Cup, but then I imagine that we return to everyday problems, that is, the shortage of wages, the feeling of fear when walking through the streets of the city or town, the waiting lists for treatment.
I was Giorgia Melonior some of the centre-right leaders, after the defeat of the referendum I would start again from here, from the three S’s. The money. Cutting excise duties is fine, at least to buffer the increases due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. And an investigation into speculators, who take advantage of every crisis to adjust prices, is also good. But then there is something more structural to do. I know that the coffers are empty, because someone who today sets himself up as a statesman has emptied them with the Superbonus and also with the Citizenship Income, but in the year and a half that remains until the end of the legislature we need to find funds that will give help to families and businesses, restoring some confidence. Easy to say while sitting in the editorial office, in front of your computer, difficult to do if you are in the uncomfortable position of being at Palazzo Chigi. However, even if the operation is very complicated due to the budgetary parameters imposed by the EU, this is the main lever to act on if we want to regain consensus. Whether they are called tax cuts, reliefs, aid, support or incentives, in the end we are always talking about money and we need to put some of it in the pockets of Italians.
Security. In this newspaper we often talk about crime stories involving illegal immigrants. I also know that the expulsion of those who have no right to remain in Italy, because they are not fleeing from a war but sometimes only from an arrest warrant in their own country, is not easy. But this too must become a priority. It is urgent to re-establish relations with the African states from which many non-EU citizens arrive, it is necessary to reconnect the threads of relations with Libya and Tunisia, we must try to build other repatriation centres, perhaps with the blessing of some international organisation. I know that this too is easier said than done, because the judiciary is involved, which is all or almost all pro-migrants and can’t wait to leave them free to roam around Italy, but the government’s credibility is at stake on the crackdown. The Cinturrino case, named after the killer policeman in Milan, has thrown mud on the police, but the defense of those who wear a uniform and guarantee the safety of citizens cannot be thrown away and therefore any initiative to protect the police and carabinieri, perhaps paying the legal costs when they are necessary, is welcome. Especially at a time when those who rightly chased two young people who had escaped from the scene risk being prosecuted on charges of vehicular homicide, because one of the two fugitives ended up against a traffic light pole and died.
Then there is health, understood as healthcare. Despite the promises, the waiting lists are still long, the community houses wanted by Giuseppe Conte And Roberto Speranza they are a flop and there are ever more holes in the network of general practitioners. The first thing to do is to integrate public and private healthcare: what the former is unable to do the latter must do and certainly not at the expense of the patient, but allowing those who need it to turn to the first available facility paid for by the national health service. And the doctors who are missing? We need to bring home those who have gone abroad. As? There is a simple way: raise salaries.
As you will have understood, ultimately the three S rule has a single common thread: whether it is about money, safety or health, you need to put your wallet in order, sending to hell the three percent dogma that Brussels likes so much. If the government wants to get out of a corner, give up the objective of capping the budget deficit and aim for the objective of winning the elections again. And speaking of the corner into which the left would like to push the executive, it seems clear to me why they are trying to mount a can-can against the Interior Ministers. If it falls Matteo Piantedosidue to a private matter that has nothing to do with his role at the Interior Ministry, the strategy to contain immigration and crime risks coming to a halt. Having one of the protagonists of the security decrees resign means crippled the center-right and also the cornerstone of one of the three S’s necessary to relaunch the government’s action. Let the party that got elected be the one to scream Ilaria Salis explains everything.
