The floods that hit the Argentine city of Bahia Blanca have caused (for now) at least 16 victims, about 900 displaced people and over a hundred missing. The divers are still looking for two girls of one and five years, overwhelmed by the fury of the water.
Located in the south of the province of Buenos Aires, Bahia Blanca is home to one of the largest ports in the country. On Friday, in a few hours, the amount of rain normally recorded in a year fell, causing the flooding of entire neighborhoods and the submerged of numerous roads.

The mayor Federico Susbielles, in a press conference held on Sunday, said that the damage to the infrastructures amount to about 400 million dollars. On X, Susbielles also reported that the number of victims could increase, while research continues.
The Ministry of Security of the Province of Buenos Aires has communicated that it had received over 100 reports of disappeared people following the violent storm that hit the port city.
Three days of national mourning
The Argentine president Javier Milei proclaimed three days of national mourning to honor the victims of the flood that devastated Bahia Blanca and the nearby city of Cerri.
“All sectors of the national government will continue to commit themselves to assist the victims in this painful moment for the entire nation,” said the presidency in an official press release.
