audio guides for children that tell about the most important monuments of our country

The project guides the little ones to discover historical places with simple and engaging language. Santanchè: «It’s like a fairy tale that will tell stories, adventures and hidden secrets»

Age is not a barrier and our cultural heritage is within everyone’s reach, even the little ones. The “Italy in headphones” project fits into this context: a series of audio guides designed specifically for children, translated into multiple languages and dedicated to the monuments and symbolic places of Italian history and culture. This is a joint initiative of Podcast Original Rai and Rai Radio Kids, created with the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism.

From headphones to monuments: Rome is the protagonist of the first season

In the podcast, presented yesterday at the National Roman Museum – Baths of Diocletian, the narrative voice is that of Armando Traverso: the well-known Rai children’s presenter guides children to discover our territory through simple and exciting language, aimed at catalyzing their attention. The first season is dedicated to Rome and some of its most famous monuments: from the Trevi Fountain to Piazza Navona, from the Colosseum to St. Peter’s Square.

The support of the institutions and the educational value of the project

Italy in headphones «is like a fairy tale that will tell stories, adventures and hidden secrets of the most beautiful and magical places in our nation. Conveying love for our nation by telling and describing its beauties, monuments and history is the most direct form of promotion to stimulate curiosity and reach people’s hearts” explained the Minister of Tourism, Daniela Santanchè during the launch of the project.

The director of Rai digital and specialized radio and iPodcast, Gianfranco Zinzilli, then recalled how the audio guides are not only simple in language but also in use: all you need is a pair of headphones and a mobile phone. Among other things, “the accessibility of use, the clarity of the presentation and the colloquial but engaging tone make the audio guide not only suitable for children, but also appreciable by the whole family”. It is therefore clear that “our country must increasingly invest in concrete proposals aimed at the new generations, using adequate language and addressing the issues that concern them closely with sensitivity and competence” commented Zinzilli.

And given that the typical curiosity of the little ones is the engine of discovery, «girls and boys need to become curious to learn about the past, discover history and come to love our places and our culture. In this way they will learn to travel, first with their mind and then as aware visitors” underlined the councilor for Tourism, sport, fashion and major events of Rome Capital, Alessandro Onorato.
