The area around the memorial is largely cordoned off.

The Holocaust memorial, designed by the architect Peter Eisenmanwas opened to the public in May 2005. The field of the stele and an underground information site in the capital, near the Brandenburg gate, commemorate the approximately six million Jews murdered under the National Socialism regime. It is the third attack in a few days; On February 14, the 24 -year -old Afghan Farhad Noor linked to ISIS 24 he hit the crowd with his car killing a young mother and two -year -old girl (in addition to 40 injured) while two days later a Villachabout 350 kilometers south of Vienna, near the border with Italy and Slovenia, an Syrian asylum seeker Ahmad G. 23 years old, attacked the crowd in the historic center. The result was tragic: a 14 -year -old boy died, while four other people were injured, some seriously. The attack took place suddenly, just before 16:00, near the main square and the bridge over the river Drav. “It looked like the scene of a horror film, said a witness, that man started to unleash wildly, targeting a group of young people.” Two days ago, however, it was known that on 10 February the Austrian investigators arrested a fourteen year old who was planning an attack on the Vienna railway station and found material that suggested his support for the Islamic State group.

The Ministry of the Interior said that the boy, an Austrian of Turkish origins, was arrested in the capital on February 10 and radicalized online. The arrest was triggered by reports to the Austrian intelligence according to which a supporter of‘Isis He had published stories and videos with Islamic extremist content on different profiles Tiktok. The boy had a knife in his pocket at the time of his arrest and during a search of his home, the investigators found numerous Islamic extremist books, as well as sketches of attacks with knives and machetes in a station and against police officers, and drawings of fighters with the Flag of IS. The police also found handwritten instructions to create explosive material to be used as a detonator for a bomb. Further material that apparently had to be used to build a bomb was found in the basement of the building, together with other knives. The suspect refused to testify during the interrogation. Just two weeks ago the Islamic State asked the followers to attack the “infidels” by each medium by publishing a series of images showing men with the knife with the word “serial killer”. The operation succeeded.
