Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics, the sensations of the Italians. Faith: “I have to do the best with what I have”. Sofia: “I hope to be profoundly myself”
A light snowfall in Cortina as we prepare for the last big event of the Olympics for our stars. Federica Brignone and Sofia Goggia are expected at the grand finalethe last dance on the Olympia delle Tofane where the tiger won a fantastic gold and the Bergamo girl a bronze, leaving some regrets for the mistake that made her go off the track on the day of Federica’s triumph. There is no time to look back and Brignone is ready for the race she loves most: “After the victory in the super-G, there were two emotionally beautiful but tough days, in which people made me feel all their affection – the words of the new Olympic champion -. Now I am immersing myself in the atmosphere of the Games again, I hope to experience the next race with the same tranquility with which I experienced the super-G and downhill, I arrived in Cortina with few certainties and just as little training, without the days of work that I would have liked to get into, but in this period I am used to experiencing situations like this. I have to do the best with what I have, it will be about 3 minutes of performance, what I want to do is take advantage of my experience and technical ability. Physically I feel good – concludes the Italian – I don’t have any major deficits and there is always a bit of pain, however I feel better than last week. I hope that the mental attitude remains the same as in recent days. From Kronplatz onwards I only did three days of giant climbing and not even full ones, I hope there is spring snow. Today in the last training session I was very aggressive, I’m trying to recover some energy, I intend to continue to remain calm. I want to thank the people who sent me so many messages, I was particularly pleased by those from former skiers like Nicole Hosp and Dominique Gisin, they conveyed their happiness to me, telling me that I did something incredible.”
Sofia thinks positively
Sofia Goggia seems to have gotten over the disappointment of going off the track in Super G, skiing in Cortina is always something magical and you want to enjoy the last race of the Olympics to the fullest. “My third race in Cortina comes after a bronze in the downhill which represented an important value especially due to the contingent factors that allowed me to reach the goal. I am proud to have kept my nerve despite Vonn’s screams after the fall, it was not at all a given. Bringing home three Olympic medals in three different editions is something immense. In super-G I had a very tough day, but I must also say that I am very proud of how I skied up until the moment of the exit, I demonstrated my worth up to that point. I focus on the value expressed up to that moment, it will be a starting point in view of the giant. Yesterday I did a few laps in Dobbiaco between the wide gates, today I preferred to remain calm given the unfavorable weather. In this discipline I’m going in spurts, I hope to be deeply myself and live it without expectations. I am realistic about my path in recent years between the wide gates, at the Olympics it is a race to be experienced in serenity”.
